UC Grant withdrawn after first year?

Last year, my freshman year at UCSD, I was awarded nearly 10k in a UC grant.
But, after getting my financial aid notice today the UC grant was pulled entirely and instead replaced partially with Cal grant B, but also with increased student loans and parent PLUS loans.

I can’t ask my parents to take out a loan (they probably wouldn’t even have the credit for it) and I was hoping to be able to take out less student loans this year. If my financial aid situation was repeated this year, I could make it without taking out student loans as long as I was employed.

I know loans are a part of the process and I can’t necessarily get away from them, but I did want to lessen their load on my future as much as possible…

Are UC grants delayed this year, perhaps? Or is it typical for a UC to pull them entirely once the full cal grant B kicks in?
Anyone else have experience with this?

did you send in a file too late?

if not, last year did you reject the subsidized and unsubsidized loans? if you rejected those loans last year, there’s a possibility that the financial aid office interpreted that as the fact that you had sufficient funds to pay everything off, which is why you MUST accept the subsidized and unsubsidized loans (YES, EVEN THE UNSUBSIDIZED).

can’t really think of any other reason why they would have decreased your grants so drastically.

I sent everything in on time, and I accepted both loans this last year. I didn’t take my work-study though, so that may be it…
Thanks for your input though.

You should accept your work study. You’re not forced to do it anyways.

I did technically accept it last year, but I didn’t actually get a work study job. This year it wasn’t even offered to me.

Hm… how’s your grades…?
