@Mitato I guess hardwork really pays off … which UC u plan on attending?
@SmartGurl17 Most likely UCLA, but I’ll definitely check out a few of the campuses first before making a final decision.
Do you guys think the next wave is Monday or Tuesday?
@collegedreamer167 I don’t think being asian really means anything. As a matter of fact, I don’t think they even know what your ethnicity is when they’re reading your application (unless you stated it in your essay), because each applicant has their own UC ID number. And, if you got rejected by so many UCs, there has to be a flaw somewhere in your application. Many rejected applicants beat themselves up cause they all rejected. Question is why? Maybe it’s because of your major, how you describe yourself in your essays, how you improved yourself, etc etc. Just because you did so much in H.S doesn’t mean anything if you’re just trying to impress colleges over all the things you did. If I was an admission officer and I see you doing ASB, varsity sport, so many clubs, so many volunteer hours at some place, I’m going to look down upon that cause Im going to question: what is he passionate about really (unless one of the essays specifically states it)? They have so many students that have done the same things as you have, what makes you stand out a tiny bit more?
Overall, I’m asian, i have low stats, barely any EC (though passionate about two), and went as undeclared for all, and got accepted into all UCs (probably not Berkeley, but whatever at least UCLA had confidence in me).
But keep your heads up and always strive to be better. Where ever you go doesn’t matter at the end, as long as you take the opportunities.
Can’t they see if you are asian through just looking up your name???
@Rageronepunch I don’t think they are even allowed to look at these qualities: your name, your ethnicity, and religion.
If they made a decision based on your name/ethnicity that would be illegal technically. UCSB tends to have “say” that they deny asian applicants the most because they believe they can go “some other place,” but I got into UCSB.
How would you feel if they made a decision based on your race/name? It would definitely be unfair.
“Oh, you’re asian? With high stats? And good EC? Nah, we don’t want you. You can go to harvard or something. rejects” What if that applicant’s dream school was that college they’ve just been rejected from? And yes that situation does tend to happen from time to time, but it would be because of a fair reason, not cause of their background status.
Going to have to agree with @orionary here. Of all the campuses in the nation, the UC system is actually one of the few that doesn’t practice affirmative action because it is outlawed in the state. That’s not to say race plays zero factor, but it actually is a pretty holistic review. I also got in all the UCs I applied to as an Asian male with a slightly below average GPA, but some killer essays and ECs that were focused and had direction.
are they releasing decisions today as well? or will we have to wait until tomorrow?
Does anybody remember if it was only acceptances for the next two waves?
Accepted!
However, not to my original major. I applied to CS (which is super difficult so I didn’t really expect anything) but was accepted for Undeclared since they couldn’t take me for the engineering college. I probably won’t attend UCI, but is it easy to declare your major as CS later on?
Stats:
OOS
29 ACT
3.65 GPA
Lot’s of EC’s (Varsity sports, Captain, Musicals, 200+ Volunteering hours, Coaching, Honor Societies, etc.)
@tennisxo22 congratulations! Did you get the acceptance just now?
for those who got accepted into poli sci what were your stats?
I found out about my acceptance on Friday afternoon around 4:30 pm.
I was accepted for Pharmaceutical Sciences.
SAT: 1200
UC GPA Weighted: 4.3
6 AP Classes in total.
Excellent extracurriculars and strong personal statements.
My testing isn’t that strong, but I think my personal insight questions, extracurriculars, and UC GPA are what saved me in the process of being selected. To those of you who think you don’t have a shot because of one thing or another, hand in there
@orionary Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the UC admission system. I always have the impression that UCs based first on your GPA, but looks like that is not the case from your experience as you said you have low stats and you got in almost all UCs. That is really good to know. And congrats to you. Do you mind sharing your stats again?
Are all the UC’s same on their general education requirements?
Anyone who got accepted to Psychology major? Can you please share your stats?
DD’s portal not yet updated with admission decision. Should she wait few more days or time to call UCI admissions office?
Any history majors hear back? Hopefully I’m at least waitlisted
My friend heard back from UCI this morning through email for business admin… anyone know if they’re rolling acceptances still? and if it’s done randomly?
Anyone hear back for pharmaceutical sciences? Do I have a good chance? SAT 1270, 3.97 UC Gpa
