@orionary Once you have enrolled in courses at the end of August (during orientation), you can change undeclared to a non-capped major.
Has anyone been accepted for “Computer Science and Engineering”?
My fiend is waiting for material engineering. Anyone accepted?
@SmartGurl17 Do you know if I can pursue an engineering major if I’m not “talented” at math? Is there an engineering major that doesn’t require so much math at all? (I highly doubt it, but just curious)
Hello, is comp sci a capped major in UCI, and how much does it take to get in? The length of the process, the requirements, the screening, etc.
@j678jgpo
Yes, I am well aware of their holistic admission. I only focused on my son’s GPA trend as someone asked me specifically.
My son had an unusual EC and good essays(he had help from his aunt who works at a college and a professional editor), and yes he did mention his upward GPA trend on his essay.
His test score was okay(ACT29), however he was accepted by Cal Poly SLO which looks at even the 9th grade GPA(he only had 3.4 in 9th).
The college admissions are very mysterious…
@orionary If you’re willing to work hard and take interest in calculus, it should be manageable. Biomedical, civil, material and mechanical engineering focuses more on design, materials and assembly and require the least amount of math. I ace math (AP Calc) although I don’t like it. I’m more of a science type gurl lol.
Is materials engineering capped?
@smartgurl17 I never took AP calc actually, and I was planning to do it in college. Will I be at any disadvantage?
Are people who aren’t in top 9% of their graduating class less likely to get in UCI? Or Just UC in general ?
@Orionary What math are you currently taking right now? During my junior year, I took Calculus Honors, so it helped me get a good foundation for college level math- which is the same material but in a more elaborate way. You won’t be at a disadvantage, but I just wanted to complete it so I don’t have to pay for it in college. I don’t think there’s more math than Calculus 4 or sumtin for my major.
Have any nursing majors been accepted? I keep seeing people who applied as a nursing major but accepted for their alternative.
Yes, accepted for environmental engineering earlier today.
@Trish19: You have to take pre-req courses for CS and maintain a specific GPA to switch majors, however, CS is a capped/impacted major so there is no guarantee that if you meet the requirements you can switch. I would contact the CS Department and ask how many students actually are able to change into CS.

@22nurse: Several Nursing admits so far. Use the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the thread and type in a keyword. It will search through this thread for your keyword so you can identify the Nursing acceptance posts.
@Katen1: Being in the top 9% ELC eligible is considered in all the UC admissions but you can still get an acceptance even if you are not ELC eligible.
@orionary: To declare a major you need to see if you have pre-req courses and a GPA requirement needed before switching majors. What major do you plan to change into?
Here is the UCI Change of Major info:
@SmartGurl17 Well Im taking statistics right now. My school only offer AP Calc, and regular stats. Ap calc only has like 5 people who are naturally smart at math. I wish there was a regular calc/honors calc class :/. I didnlt wanna take ap calc cause it’s gonna be a struggle in there.
@gumbymom I was planning to pursue one of these majors:
Biochem/molecular bio
Microbio/immunology
HUman bio
Neurobio
Pharmacy
are the wave of acceptances over? And has anyone been rejected from UCI so far?
