@eunbyul I’m in the same situation. I got accepted to CSULB but i prefer the UCI campus. I know LB is a great university in terms of academics but the campus environment and setting matters a lot to me as well so I’m thinking of going to CC and transfer. The only con is that it would be kind of a hassle
To all of you students wondering if you should go to CC because you did not get into the UC that you wanted, please consider that there is no guarantee that you will achieve the required GPA in CC to be competitive for a transfer to the UC you desire. College work is not high school work, it is harder typically. I’m not being negative about CC, it is a fine alternative for many students and definitely saves $$. Just know there are no guarantees. Sometimes in life it is better to accept what is pretty good and certain rather than everything you want and uncertain. Just trying to help.
My so goes to CC and is doing great. He got GPA3.9 (summer and fall) , has 4.0 so far this semester at CC. His WGPA in high school was 3.9.
Yes you need to work some but if you took AP classes in high school, it is fairly easy.
Check transfer requirements on each UC, it is not that hard and some UCs have a guaranteed admission( if you follow the requirements).
I know some parents complained about the taxes they paid and their kids being turned away by UCs on this thread. They can get their tax money back if kids do CC. It is so inexpensive( therefore funded by taxes).
Kids at my son’s CC normally get into the much better colleges than they originally were accepted when they applied in senior year.
If you are determined to do something, there is always an opportunity.
@ParentalPraise I go to cc and I literally got a guarantee for UCI
@riceball123 - Does the guarantee apply to popular majors such as CS or Engineering? Basically, can you transfer to a CS or Engineering major?
Good points hoppy 1 and riceball 123. I want kids to reach for their dreams however they can get there. My point was simply that sometimes you don’t get everything you want, and that a current opportunity that is most of what you want is worthy of consideration. I was not trying to be negative. I wish all the kids the best whatever decision they, and their parents, make.
Is there any California schools i can apply to now? Besides CC
@Tabitha18 Yes it does. I got in through tag as a CS major. Could’ve picked any ICS or engineering major I had wanted, it’s only unavailable for nursing, business admin. and performing arts majors I believe.
@Owls2017: The NACAC in May will publish a list of schools that are under enrolled and have spots open so you can check for any California schools.
https://hub.nacacnet.org
@Owls2017 If you are ELC (in state and top 9%) you will receive a letter from UC Merced in a few weeks offering you admission as long as you pay the application fee. You would have been notified if you are ELC on your UC app. Merced is rapidly growing and it will be easier to get undergrad research positions due to the lower enrollment. It’s also still a UC.
are many of you going to csu’s for upcoming fall?
UCLA/UCB/UCSD, Engineering majors for UCSB and Business Admin/Nursing for UCI are excluded from TAG but the rest of the UC’s will accept TAG applicants. Just remember that TAG majors and requirements can change from year to year so higher GPA’s requirements or more majors may be excluded.
Check the excluded majors in the matrix link below.

@Tabitha18 yes you can. As far as I know, the only impacted majors that aren’t part of the guarantee are nursing and business ad
@Tabitha18 look at the TAG that @Gumbymom just posted. the 6 UCs all show different majors or schools as excluded. for instance, UCSB excludes the school of engineering
Rejected!!!
Act 32
Gpa 4.4
Accepted honors Santa Barbara, ucla ucd, ucsd
It’s okay though Irvine maybe is just rejecting the super awesome people like us if u got rejected just kno u still a cutie in my heart
@gotrejected2000 not worth it honestly
@spicyquiche what are you appealing on the basis of?
when was the most recent acceptance/waitlist? is it just rejections from here on out
@Owls2017 UCM would be great if you are ELC. My friend’s kid went there for engineering as he was bright but not a motivated student in HS. It has been a great place for him - he is top of his class, graduating this year as “engineer of the year”, has had great research opportunities with direct connections with professors, going next year to start his MS/PhD and was accepted to major programs / universities. Lots of opportunities to excel and all the resources you will need. You take classes at UCB - I believe entire semesters (need to check that). Also, Oregon State looks to be still accepting applications and there is Golden State scholarship and Tuition grant scholarship still open for California students. Other private Cali. schools I saw that are still accepting apps are Azusa Pacific an Marymount but they might be pricey. Good luck!!
How hard is it too transfer from SJSU CS to UCI, UCSB, UCD, or UCSD for cs? I don’t want to go to community or UCSC because I hate the santa cruz environment.
