Heads up. Acceptance rate this year is 28.7%. A decrease of about 8 % from last year.
@lowkeyveryhighkey I don’t know which shocked me more: the admit rate or that average unweighted GPA was over 3.9 for admitted students.
sorry but @CopperlineX2 , that isn’t very true anymore.
Schools really REALLY put emphasis on region to the point that it is infuriating, but understandable.
From my school (upper class, asian populated, suburban los angeles), most people who got in have 1400 SAT and 3.5+ GPA. some ec but not TOOOO much.
HOWEVER,
in my OWN experience and from what people have shown me from their transcripts and SAT, the UC has attempted to diversify and give students who literally have half the SAT and GPA in.
These are the stats from two students that I know:
- 2.9 GPA, 950 SAT, one internship, bad area, low income, east los angeles. (hispanic)
- 3.2 GPA, 1050 SAT, two clubs, one leadership, low income, downtown la (Latin, mixed)
Regions like these have more UC than my school where most students who apply to UCI have higher GPA and SAT. We do not know if this is true but it is what it is.
@heyigotnoclue I was just using stats given at accepted students reception. It will be interesting to see final stats of those who choose to enroll.
@heyigotnoclue This are from the UC site, admissions by school, which may help support your observations: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/admissions-source-school
I’m attending UCI in the fall and I am also looking for roommates who want to room in mesa court towers! (:

My major is business administration, I withdrew my physics class this spring semester. Even though I withdrew the physics class I still have enough transferable credits. But, on my official transcript, it will say grade change to w behind my physics class…Will UCI rescind my admission?
was wondering if anyone else has this issue? i sent in my electronic verification signature on the 23rd of this month, and it’s still under review as of today. the date that’s it should be received is tomorrow the 29th, should I be worried? underneath the document box it says “* All documents must be received by the due date to be considered on time. Failure to submit documentation by the due date may jeopardize your aid eligibility.”
@xksehh i heard that switching classes doesnt look good on your transcript. i think you should contact admissions for a final answer for your situation.
@redgala I was also sent a dependent verfication signature form in which I had to print out, sign it, and send it in to them. Mine is too ‘under review’ for a while now, even though I sent it way before my own due date. And as of now, they still haven’t updated anything. I think we are fine. It states that even though documents are under review, it’ll still count as ON TIME once they review it.
@orionary alright. glad i’m not the only one.
Did anyone take the AWEP (Analytical Writing Exam Placement) and got their scores back? I don’t know my score, but it says on my portal under MyTests that I “have not satisfied the AWEP”. I’m a little bummed out about this ;/ I thought I did reallyyyyyy well on test day. Anyways, how do you find out what score you got, and what “suggested English class” you’ll be taking? I read a few posts and some people said you’ll be getting a mail to take a test in July? Others are saying you’ll be placed into english courses that will satisfy the entry level when you enter fall quarter.
I know this entire thread is dead, but I would like to share some light to future UCI applications. Please remember that for our class of 2022, the number of applications went up almost to 110,000, and only 26-28% of us were accepted. (Please note that we are the class of the third generation, “baby boomers” born in the year 2000). I highly doubt there would ever be that much applications to UCI in the future.
If you are a freshman, sophomore, or junior, continue to experience high school for what it is: to learn the ropes of college coursework (AP/IBs), and to engage in fun social activities that you may never experience again (homecoming, prom, etc). If you can, prepare for the SAT and build up your “high school resume” (especially for you juniors!)
If you are a senior, please note that if you’re scrambling leadership positions/joining 5+ clubs for the first time ever, college admissions will see that and it is a big no no. It doesn’t mean it’s too late to actually get started in contributing to your school/society, but you need to know you had the other 3 years to do something, and college admissions don’t want to see you wasting it. Also, if you have never taken AP courses before, don’t randomly take 5+ in your last year.
If you have taken the SAT/ACT and did poorly than you had expected it, don’t stress out too much about it, and try your best to review for the next time (Princeton Review books, etc). I thought I did poorly on my SAT (despite 3+ tries), but in the end, my essays came in clutch. UCI is a very diverse school; not everyone got a 1400+ on the SAT (or 30+ on ACT). Just do your best!
For Junior and Seniors working on their essays: Start early! Early= right after junior year ends (summer). I cannot express how many times I had changed subjects or wrote completely new essays. Despite having 4 peer readers, there were still mistakes that I had to fix, but in the end it was worth (and got accepted to 7/8 UCs).
If you have:
GPA: 3.70+ (weighted)
SAT/ACT: 1280+
Participated in EC and at least ONE important thing that you’re passionate about.
Started your essays early on and have peer readers in your mind
Have a designated major that you want to go into
Have backup colleges
Then you should be all set! If you don’t get into your first, second, or third choice of college, it is never the end of the world. College is about learning, and learning contributes to improving, and improving leads to better things.
Good luck!!!
