got waitlisted for biological sciences

Hi-My son is soph at UCI. I helped my son’s friend with ihis college apps this year as he is a 1st gen kiddo and needed some guidance. He got into UCR last week. His first choice is UCI. The email basically starts off as a rejection, but then it says if he has new and compelling evidence to support an appeal of the decision he should submit it through the Appeal Portal by 4-15-24. For an appeal to have merit it must bring to light new academic and personal information as well as information pertaining to compelling circumstances. Senior grades, awards and increased activities are not a basis for reversal of a decision.

Do you know if all rejections say this?

My kid with similar stats was also waitlisted. Surprising, we were at least hoping to have an acceptance from UCI.

I would assume that the wording is the same for all students that are denied admission and would have the option to appeal.

Wonder how UCI select regents since it looks like every UC has different criteria. My sister was ranked 1 in the entire school district with metals and really good essays plus ecs but she didn’t get regents at UCI however she got it for UCLA. I’m also number 1 in district with similar if not better Ecs than my sis and I didn’t get one either.

Regents selection criteria is not listed for any of the campuses but usually the top 1-2% of applicants (as defined by each UC campus) and not necessarily the top academically.

Congratulations! Just wondering how you know which school your daughter is admitted to? My D24’s admission letter only says her major is computer science, didn’t mention which school.

Got it. Thank you and congrats to all who got in and those with regents!
