Welcome prospective Anteaters. It’s that time of year again as the UC application has now opened and submission starts October 1 through December 1. I am @Gumbymom one of the two UC Forum Champions/Moderators. My Co-Forum Champion is @lkg4answers and we are knowledgeable on the increasingly complicated UC admissions process and hopefully we can help any prospective UC applicants with their questions.
UC Irvine like all the UC’s are test blind and will use 13 areas of criteria to review Freshman applicants. Each campus will weight the various areas of criteria differently so one size does not fit all. The UC application website has plenty of information that can help determine if UC Irvine is a good option when applying.
Major choice is an admissions factor. In the case that UCI is unable to accommodate all qualified applicants in their first-choice major, those students who indicate a valid alternate major may be offered admission in that major or Undeclared.
Selective majors include Business Administration, Nursing, Majors in the College of Information and Computer Sciences, College of Engineering, Business Economics, Cognitive Science, Economics, Psychology, and Quantitative Economics.

New majors are Music BA with no audition and B.Mus with audition required.
I do not think they are new? I was curious so I looked on the internet archive for this major requirements page and it shows Music BA and BMus going back at least to 2016 (probably the majors existed before that, but the web page was created then).
UC Irvine only lists the Unweighted UC GPA range of 3.86-4.00 and the Capped weighted UC GPA range of 4.04-4.27 for the campus. I have not seen a breakout of UC GPA ranges for each specific major other than the UCOP data for the Admissions by discipline:
That is strange! They apparently had some requirements changes last year for these majors but I do not see anything that would make them “NEW majors”… I wonder if there was a miscommunication somewhere? There’s ample info about these majors on the web site.
Unrelated message but, it is strange that the UCI Data Hub says that the Computer Science Engineering major (CSE) has had a 100% acceptance rate for about 8 years right? I must be reading the data wrong, surely?
”Students applying for the Computer Science and Engineering major (major code 193) are variously recorded as applicants to
Engineering, to Information and Computer Science, and to Interdisciplinary Studies. By the time these students enroll, however, they
are placed into either Engineering or Information and Computer Science.”
