As a campus, we take great pride in providing a wonderful student housing experience for our students, and, under normal circumstances, offering guarantees for this housing to a large percentage of our student body. However, it is not possible for us to know at this time whether the current public health crisis will allow us to maintain normal operations in student housing and residential life when the fall quarter begins. Consequently, we are not offering a housing guarantee at this time.
We are committed to having students on campus to the maximum extent possible. But, it will be some time before we know more precisely how many students we can safely accommodate in our housing units. Additional information will be provided by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as we have more to report. For more information about this, as well as other expected changes for fall 2020 as they are determined, please visit our FAQ page here.
If you submitted a statement of intent to register, we hope that you will continue to be our partners in making your educational experience the best it can be while helping to ensure your continued good health and the health of our community. If this new information about the housing guarantee causes you to reconsider your decision, please reach out to us and we will work with you.
You can speak directly with a representative using the live chat feature on our website, admissions.uci.edu. Our staff is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer questions directly.
To get updated Housing information, please visit their FAQ page or contact UCI Housing directly by emailing housing@uci.edu.

What is going to happen now?
@ UCI Housing: Please get back to us ASAP. A lot of us were relying on guaranteed housing. If Fall 2020 quarter will be online, then we donāt need to worry about commuting. But if UCI is on-campus, we need to know ASAP so we can notify financial aid that weāll be off-campus not on-campus cause of housing shortage(or COVID-19 spacing tactic)⦠What if we canāt find any affordable housing in the area? This affects decision to SIR! I donāt mean to panicā¦
Can you submit SIR w/ waiver, and if you donāt get housing, withdraw it? Iām counting on housing to be able to attend. Now with this new email, I donāt know⦠
OMG sameeee. I seriously feel you! Iām from a private school and my only other option is a school that is SUPER expensive and Iām not here for it. So Iām not sure if I should just go to cc a year and reapply. But wouldnāt that make me a senior then? Because the nursing school only accepts juniors. Are you going to reapply then if anything?
People said if you submit SIR, you gonna pay $250, but after I submitted, they did not ask for any payment.
I got accepted for Business Information Management, and still need to complete the condition of at least grade B for the last three major requirement which concern me a lot because of online-class.
Yeah my other option was West Coast but I seriously donāt think its worth the debt, I might just have to stick it out for one more year and try again next year. Nursing schools here in California are just so impacted, its such a bummer! I still havenāt heard of anyone getting in, Iād love to hear their stats to see what I can do better for next year.
I talked to a representative from the UCI Admissions office. Waitlisted students cannot appeal. I also asked when admission decisions for waitlists will be released. They said after June 1, basically after transfer SIR deadline. I checked last yearās transfer thread and saw that waitlist offers started being sent out 05/28, so letās hope itās the same this year!
@Skister - did you find where to pay your SIR? Itās on there, but the link is in small print and takes a minute to find. I canāt recall if it was on the portal home page or on the page where I tried to fill out an application for housing, but it was definitely there. You do the SIR and then have to go back and to one of those other pages to do it. You should do it now if you plan on applying for housing. Donāt wait - especially since housing is not being guaranteed for everyone this Fall due to COVID-19. Good luck!
Has anyone had trouble joining the Transfer Virtual Webinars? I got a link and password emailed to me but when I tried to log on it asked for my name and said I needed to wait for an email from the host to be approvedā¦
