I had to take units Pass/No Pass (Credit/No Credit) this term. Will it affect my ability to enroll?
Many community colleges are providing a Pass/No Pass or Credit/No Credit grading scheme for the winter, spring and summer terms in 2020 — sometimes with no other grading alternatives for students.
In light of this, UC has temporarily suspended its cap on Pass/No Pass (Credit/No Credit) units required to enroll at a UC campus as a junior. Any courses taken with Pass/No Pass or Credit/No Credit grading in the winter, spring and summer terms of 2020 will not count toward UC’s limit of 14 semester/21 quarter transferable units.
Will UC accept Pass/No Pass (Credit/No Credit) grading in courses required for my major?
Completing major preparatory coursework with letter grades may be an admissions factor for individual campuses. In such cases, departmental faculty and campus admissions offices have been encouraged to be as flexible with fall 2020 transfer students as possible. Inquire with the campus admissions office if you have questions or concerns.
Can I complete required transfer courses this coming summer, if spring courses have been cancelled?
Yes, so long as you meet minimum admissions requirements by the time you enter UC in the fall; this includes completion of 60 semester/90 quarter transferable units and the 7-course pattern, as well as attainment of a minimum 2.4 GPA (2.8 for nonresidents).
Completing minimum requirements by spring is a selection criterion used by many of our campuses. Students who will need summer coursework to meet minimum requirements due to spring course cancellations should work directly with their UC campus admissions office to determine any potential impact on an admission decision.

I can’t link it because College Confidential doesn’t allow links sometimes or post edits
Sometimes people miss things and their TAG gets denied. That’s what happened to me, sorta. An admissions officer misinformed me about a class I took and then my TAG got denied from UCSC.
@shredder47 you still apply in November if that’s what you mean, so there are two applications. But regular admission doesn’t look at it if you’ve TAG’d unless you’re rejected. So in that sense you’re right, there are two applications. ??
On assist, it states that preference is given to students that complete most of their major requirements along with GPA. I’m assuming that this applies to TAG applicants as well? This would make sense as one applicant can have 1 requirement left while another has 3. They would accept the one that has less first. Just my thoughts on how this works. Ultimately, TAG should be accepted as long as all necessary courses are completed by the end of spring or else it contradicts everything about TAG.
I also think its pretty unfair that a TAG decision cant be appealed. Its completely plausible that an admissions officer could have misinterpreted information or just made a mistake, and TAG has the most objective guidelines for admission, much more so than regular admission
i also asked a uc expert yday and she said TAG decisions were released in batches last year therefore if u did not hear anything from the first batch yday, youre still fine!
Wow, @doomeister , that sure says it’s automatic! I hope the writer of the article didn’t get it wrong. I’d want to see something in a policy versus just in an article like that. I imagine it’s correct, though, and you guys will be getting it. If not yet, it’s probably just a glitch. Oh, but that said, that may not go for H2H transfers from every school. It could just be agreements with certain schools.
I hope everyone is hanging in there as we await our admissions decisions. I figured I’d also make a post as I’m waiting for mine. My stats are as follows:
GPA: 3.87
Credits: fulfilled required 60 semester units before applying to transfer (IGETC)
Major: Sociology (alternate major: Political Science)
Work experience: on-campus English tutor at local community college (3 semesters)
@ladykatie , the third section of what @lovecpa posted in post #1145 should help you.
(Reading lots of threads…hope I’m posting in the right one. Either way, even if your situation of dropping the class wasn’t about UCI, I hope you’ll see this, and it will give you some comfort.)
@kanaomarrons After a TAG application is submitted, a general application needs to be submitted as well. If you are denied from TAG, you may not receive notification about it yet I’m guessing. Most likely you’d have to wait until regular admissions come out.
guys. TAG allows you to have two applications. One for TAG and one as a regular applicant. They are still probably doing TAG decisions. If not, then you did not get accepted through TAG. There is only a certain amount they can accept through TAG because if they accepted everyone, then it is too easy at that point. You can not appeal through TAG because you already had the chance to have two applications. It enables the chance for regular applicants to get in as well. It is what it is. Just wait and be patient. If they end up not accepting you then it was not meant to be. Things happen for a reason people.
