I am appying for housing on UCLA campus, is that a good idea? Which location is the best, in your opinion? the choices were: plaza, hall, and dorm, I believe.

Also, please recommend me some good general ed. courses to get started on when I get there!

suite= very quiet
plaza= quiet at times, i happen to live on a pretty social floor.
hall= very social, good place to meet people

i wouldnt recommend the freshmen clusters. there are more interesting classes out there at ucla. i took interracial dynamics in the fall and dropped it winter quarter. i didnt like the idea of learning about slavery the entire quarter (literally, they beat the topic to death) the class became more of black/white relationships rather than interracial relationships, but they might have changed the next quarter. if i were to take a different cluster, i would have gone with the US history cluster.

good first quarter classes: music 15, arts&arch 10 (fills up fast), education 92f (there are more in another thread)

Your department should have a proposed curriculum guide for you to follow. If not, you can ask and follow the path of older people who are in the your major.

Generally, the school recommends the first quarter workload to be only 3 classes, but that is because they want you to adjust, explore, and have fun.

If you’re disciplined enough and want to get a head start, you can take more than that. (most people should be able to).
