"My father always told me “You were born a natural businessman” Those words ring more true to me today than ever. The essence of entrepreneurship is the endless set of possibilities that would allow me to build my own career. I am convinced this is the career back for me. This flexibility complements my creative nature and desire to be a leader. I have been very fortunate to have already had the opportunity to get a taste of what it’s like to be an entrepreneur as well as a leader.

Entrepreneurship and the willingness to take calculated risks are closely related. In my sophomore year of high school, I started my own screen printing company through which I produced hand crafted custom apparel. Through this experience, I learned about spending money before making money. I knew at any moment I could lose all the money I had initially invested. The risk gave me the motivation to work hard to avoid failure. I stayed up late nights printing shirts, constantly bringing more customers in, and most importantly, keeping up a positive attitude. During that year, my team and I ended up working with a local film crew to help make apparel representing their film, which helped us spread the word about our business. At our peak, we were working with over 70 different customers, all wanting different orders and specifications. Although I had to work harder than I had ever before, the experience taught me a lot about my capabilities and gave me more confidence in wanting to be an entrepreneur.

While calculated risk-taking is only one aspect of being a successful entrepreneur, the ability to show leadership is equally vital. Opportunity knocked early in my junior year when the City of Anaheim hired me to be part of their Community Service Department. They assigned me to be in charge of a local gym in Anaheim and run youth sports leagues. The job has required me to take charge and be a role model for the children and others at the facility. In an average day, I work with over fifty to a hundred kids. I have spent countless hours coaching children and encouraging them to be best they can be on the court. The lessons I learn at work have carried into my personal life and continue to shape me into a better person. I always apply what I learn and strive to be a leader on and off the court. While I have a lot to learn, I know that I am passionate about becoming a successful leader.

I believe if I utilize my entrepreneurial spirit and leadership abilities, I can stay true to my father’s words. By this “entrepreneurial spirit” I mean take nothing and turning it into something, just like my father. He came to the United States with only a thousand dollars in his pocket, but maximized every opportunity he had to get to where he is now as a successful sales executive at a Fortune 500 company. I am excited at the prospect of attending the University of California to build upon the base of knowledge and skills that will allow me to become a successful entrepreneur."

I need some blunt and honest feedback for this essay. I am freaking out because i dont think it is good enough. thanks guys…
