So I am applying to a few UC schools but I have a question about the prompt. It asks to describe the world I come from and how it has shaped my dreams and aspirations. I have heard and read articles about people suggesting that the applicant should not literally talk about their world (their hometown, their struggles in their family, etc…) but instead experiences/events that helped them aim for an achievement or dream.

My question is…I have always wanted to be a filmmaker because I enjoyed watching and analyzing movies. It is a career that I want to do in the future. Right now, I see it as a hobby and want to go to school in computer science and engineering but my ultimate dream is to become a filmmaker. I just want to know if that is something that the admissions board would look at as something unique or interesting because they might think that since I want to be a filmmaker so bad, why wouldn’t I go to school for it. So do you guys think that it is a topic that is appropriate for the prompt?
