UC question--helppp

Is transferring to a UC school virtually impossible for an OOS student with less than amazing stats? 45 credits, 3.55 gpa; NY community college.

USC impossible? any advice or info about any UC’s that would apply to my position?

First off, USC isn’t a UC. :)

Secondly, it’s not impossible, but the only UC’s you’d get into aren’t really worth it, considering the OOS expense.

hahah I knew someone would mention that–I know USC isn’t a UC.

But thanks for being honest! Didn’t expect to hear anything good, anyway! lol

Your best shot is USC. The UC’s reserve admissions for their state’s community college before any one else’s.
That’s assuming that you’re not aiming for impacted majors like Film/Communications/Business/Engineering etc. If you’re aiming for one of the humanities, I think you have a decent shot at USC/

What could I do to make USC possible? I’ll have 60 credits and a 3.66ish at the end of the year. lol :frowning: …lost cause, huh?

Liek-- Philosophy major!..

Lol, a non-impacted major would definitely be your best bet. But I’d think you’d want to make your major top priority, and base your college off that major.

I am a philosophy major–I have no clue what non-impacted even means lol…

Well, you might as well give it a go. :)

Non-impacted would mean a major that not a lot of people apply to, and thus is easier to get into.

would philosophy constitute a non-impacted major at USC? In the back of my mind it has always been a dream to go there–but it never even seemed remotely realistic to think I’d get in.

I don’t think philosophy is impacted ANYWHERE to be honest with you.

yeah I don’t think philosophy is impacted. fyi the average gpa of those acceptance as a transfer student for the philosophy department @ UCLA was. 3.55 however, note that there are pre-requisites to the major at UCLA, which are:

here’s more info on the statistics per major at UCLA

BTW I’m also applying to schools as a philosophy major! Maybe we might end up being classmates at either school.

Have you looked into Claremont McKenna? They’re a liberal arts college in the Los Angeles(county) area-ish. They have strong philosophy as well, and I think because they’re classes are smaller they are more seminar based than a school like UCLA which may be more lecture.

limelight- lol, yeah I think that would be a fair statement. I love it though, and it’s just to get me into law school.

leik- Idk about the whole LAC thing…I want to go somewhere that is huge in sports; hence USC and UCLA… Are you from Cal?
