UC Riverside Transfer Fall 2016

@lenocturne is right. @uchopeful414 those are bold statements.

Have either of you read the page I stated or seen what sachil JUST said?

Are we in october of last year?

his statements “which basically means” is an inference. I really hope that neither of you practice these poor research skills when it comes to school work. Because based off what both of you say, I’ve seen nothing but logical fallacies and paraphrases from witness testimony of someone who spoke to an admissions CLERK.

You think they are going to release something for people to get educated on AFTER they apply? LOLOLOL get real dude. Danny ocean you’re worse than the other guy
What’s really a bold statement is saying “UCR reads personal statements”. Show me your proof, then I’ll consider you right.

You dont have to get personal and bring up peoples education… We got a guy banned because he was acting just like you.

I would bet money that you two are the same person. You dont take well with people not having the same point of view as you.

@uchopeful414 Yeah, I took a look at the .pdf and I’d say the issue is pretty cut and dried.

Does anyone have an idea of how the UCs consider non-assist certified courses? This is my situation according to the UC TAP site:

Non-Assist certified courses: 50 semester units, 2.89 GPA
Assist certified courses: 54 semester units, 4.00 GPA

The non-certified stuff was the first go around in college back in the 1990s along with a bunch of college credit I get for military-specific training. A lot of it won’t transfer and I really don’t need it to because I basically rebooted the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in 2014 and even retook several classes I had passed previously like English Composition and Biology.

What do they make of a really convoluted set of transcripts from six colleges? I’m hoping they really just focus on the Assist-certified classes from 2014 on. For reference I got into SJSU, SDSU, and UCR. Waiting on UCSC, UCI, UCLA (long shot, but why not?), and UCSB.

@DannyOcean he already moved to another thread and keeps spreading his delusional ideas there. I am guessing he is just a t-r-o-l-l, looking for attention. Let’s not feed him.
I just hope that people here are intelligent enough not to fall for his arrogant statements (aka “you are fine”) and big words (that he keeps misusing).

You two going to highlander day? If you want we can meet up and take a stroll over to admissions where I can show you in person that you’re wrong.

@yakattak they don’t factor in CSU courses. They will see them but they are only focused on your UC transferable. I’ve gone to 4 different colleges myself. They are pretty good at seeing what they are supposed to see, and not paying much attention to anything else. As far as military, I’m assuming you’re a veteran. Given that status, and the GI bill you have a good chance

Let’s chill guys.

Don’t worry. I’m sachill!

@lenocturne I know I saw that, I guess he is an admissions officer. @uchopeful414 No I dont want to meet up with you.

@uchopeful414 CSU units are definitely factored into the admission decisions. Most CSU classes are transferable (general courses usually transfer, but they may or may not articulate with UC requirements, who knows- but they’re still transferable). Off the wall courses (i.e. courses at CSU’s that don’t have UC counterparts) sometimes don’t transfer over.

If CSU units weren’t considered, then we wouldn’t have any CSU to UC transfers - but we do, so clearly CSU units are considered. The same holds for transfers that have 4-year units.

An additional, related note: assist-certified courses are not necessarily all of the UC transferable courses. This is misleading when one sees “Assist-Certified GPA” and “Overall GPA” on the Transfer Admission Planner. Some UC-transferable courses may not show up in the Assist-Certified GPA. For example, I took a class at a UC over the summer, but it is not factored into my Assist GPA - but it definitely is included in the UC-transferable GPA used for admission purposes.

@uchopeful414 Ok that might explain why UCR seemed like they were admitting me as a lower division student. Essentially they said I wasn’t eligible for business admin so they put me into CHASS as a pre-business major. The only way that makes sense is if they’re only looking at the last 54 units.

I don’t think you’re right on this one golden cub. Even when you fill out the UC TAP they do not factor in CSU coursework only UC transferable. The most probable answer to CSU to UC transfer their are CSU courses that are the same as COmmunity college coursework that would then be UC transferable. But if it is only FOR CSU then it won’t matter, there will be no articulation for UC. When it comes to general Ed, most courses are the same throughout the 3 systems. That’s why you can transfer from UC, CSU, or CC. Math is math no matter what school. English is English. But some courses like positive psychology is only CSU coursework so will not be considered.

And you’re right. Assist doesn’t have them all. But all colleges should have on their catalog if it’s UC transferable. I personally use the UC transfer admission planner to come up with my Gpa and see what courses transfer

@uchopeful414 The GPA in the UC TAP is not necessarily the GPA that AdComs will use. The TAP does not account for failed courses, courses taken out of sequence, and courses not taken at CC’s, all of which may affect the final GPA that is reviewed - so AdComs review coursework to determine an applicant’s GPA. To see how AdComs review coursework (not including CSU’s, I don’t think, but it will still give you a better idea): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKZU68F75-E

That’s incorrect. Some people apply from OOS to the UC’s - or even go to an OOS 4-year, leave to go to CC, and then transfer (with a good chunk of their 4-year units transferring over). You are correct that some units may not transfer, but I already said that. Most general units transfer. Anyway, it is false that UC’s don’t recognize CSU units at all.

Edit: Also, for fairly obvious reasons, CSU’s won’t list whether or not courses are UC-transferable on their catalog.

It actually does account for failed courses. I used TAP and linked it to my UC application. It gives a UC Gpgpa and a non UC. But the whole point of ANY units transferring need to be units that are general education requirements. Intro to biology is going to be pretty much the same everywhere. Physical sciences are going to be the same everywhere. But a lot of the time, especially with UC, they don’t take upper division units for that reason. There are specifications at schools when you get into upper division that UC will not notice. That’s why you can only transfer as a junior. But even when filling out the application, if it doesn’t recognize the course you are inputting they usually do not acknowledge it as Anything because it’s only CSU

To clarify what I am saying, they will not take junior level courses from CSU. And they won’t pay attention to courses listed as ONLY CSU transferable. I know this because UCR accepted me and told me to maintain my Gpa, which corroborated the UC Gpa that I got from my tap. But it was not the Gpa of my total of all institutions.

Would be pointless for them to look at grades and accept or deny on grades that don’t even transfer over. Yes they see them but their decisions for Gpa purposes will only be on UC transferable ones
