Thank you for sharing this… Sounds like you have some other great colleges to consider!

Accepted to alternate major. Unfortunately the alternate major was probably not a good choice.

I see @lkg4answers already posted the major info above

Was Math CS your primary or alternate major choice?

Got accepted into my alternate major and my 5th choice college. Is 5th choice college normal?? I thought people almost always got into one of their top 3…

It is a math major that the student could take a lot of CS class as electives. I know a person graduated with this major last year and landed a job as software engineer right after graduation.

I guess so. S24 now tells me he wants to take a gap year before college, and UC Davis is the only UC campus that allows that. So if he doesn’t get UC Davis waitlist this year, he will apply again next year.

UC uncapped 4.79

Congratulations to all new admits! I have a current first year, if I can answer any questions. To those who are waitlisted or rejected but have been admitted to other UCs, I can’t stress enough how great all the schools are in the system, even those that you might not have put at the top of your list. I know students at all of them who are thriving and getting a really similar education as to what they would get at one of the other UCs they had set their sights on. For my daughter, she had desperately wanted UCLA where her brother is but didn’t get in. UCSD has ended up being wonderful for her!

Love the school that loves you back. Good work, and good luck wherever you end up!

I’m sure UCSD is as good as that. What about the 3 lower ranked UC’s? UCR, UCSC and UC Merced?

Any idea the acceptance rate of the waitlist

Last year it seemed among my son’s friends that many UCSD college assignments were surprising and seemingly random.

It will be ok! All the colleges are fine, there are no horrible colleges to avoid, and you can do any major from any college.

I will say, however, that for anyone comparing UCSD to their other admission options at this time, it can be helpful to look at the general education requirements for the UCSD college where you were admitted, just to see what requirements you will need to fulfill if you enroll. Each college has its own GE list.
