My understanding is that UCs don’t allow students to defer their admission except in extreme circumstances. I do wonder if his decision not to attend last year affected how they viewed his application this year. Thankfully, the UCLA acceptance made it easier to get over being rejected by UCSC.

My son was accepted to Eighth College. Does anyone know how many of the dorms/dining halls there will be open by Fall 2024?
Accepted for neurobiology!!!
When did you get the acceptance?
I received it yesterday evening, just forgot to put it here.
does UCSD guarantee housing for more than one year? i have heard that UCLA guarantees it for 4 years.
S24 Accepted yesterday for Urban Studies and Planning in Revelle College!
Last year my d23 applied to only 5 ucs and slo. She was wl to 3 ucs and slo. Accepted at cal and ucsb. So, there is a chance! Keep faith!
UCSD currently guarantees two years of housing. Housing Guarantee
Tamagotchi is correct about the 2 year guarantee - just want to emphasize that if your student misses the deadline for housing, they lose the housing guarantee and will be put on a housing waitlist. The UCSD parents’ FB group includes a number of parents whose students faced this issue. (It is clear from the link and communications that this is the case, but worth emphasizing).
thanks. what happens after 2 years? do students who want to stay on the campus usually get it? La Jolla is a very expensive city.
My student is in his first year now, but everything I’ve read and heard says that getting housing on campus after 2 years is unlikely. As I understand it, there is ample (but expensive) housing nearby, and cheaper housing with more of a commute.
thanks. strange that UCSD can’t prioritize 4 years of undergraduate housing. i think they have absolutely top notch faculty and research in many fields and are located in one of the nicest cities in the country. but it seems they are worried about going to division I/big west/ whatever that stuff is ( i don’t understand these terms) and not student housing. very disappointing.
Not just La Jolla, but all of San Diego.
I believe the 2 year housing guarantee is already a step forward. (Didn’t they have only a one year guarantee in the past?) They have recently built a LOT of new housing on campus.
