Wait if calculus is a prerequisite, don’t you need it to transfer? You just needed to take precalculus and then calculus if you were not able to jump straight to it. I heard that you will get denied for failing to complete the prerequisite.

@statsiscool777 Well it depends. If Calculus, or the Calculus series, is a required course to transfer, then you do need to have it complete by Spring 2020. If Calculus, or the Calculus series, is just a prerequisite and not a required course to transfer, then you don’t necessarily have to complete it. However, it is in your best interest to complete it to show to UCSD that you are ready to jump into your major once you transfer. The same also applies to Precalculus if it is a required course to transfer.

If you want, I would definitely run this through a UCSD Admission Counselor if you are worried about it. Their phone number can be found on the UCSD website.

I talked to UCSD psychology department and I only need 3 of the prereqs to transfer but I have more. Calculus isn’t required to transfer but might affect my acceptance into the school, Idk.

@alastar It can, but I’m not sure either. To any and all universities you want to transfer to, they want to see that you are prepared and ready to go right into your major if you do get accepted. So I know for psychology, there are required courses you need to complete to transfer, which are just 3 or so I believe.

If you would like some more in-depth information, its all on their website: https://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfer/transfer-major-preparation.html
It displays all of the courses you can take to fulfill your requirement and I think it’s a really good source.

Not having the Calculus series is not the end of the world. Yes, it is one of those “fundamental courses,” but there are a bunch of other courses for prereqs that you can use to prove that you are prepared. As long as you have other prereqs completed, you’re gonna be fine. You got this!

I need some encouragement after seeing my grades this semester:

hello everyone! i’ve tried my best to refrain from transfer threads bc they make me so anxious lol but UCSD is my number one and i figured it’d be fun to talk to other people too.

some background on me: i was a very involved student in hs, had multiple extracurriculars, president of a few clubs, volunteered in my community, 4-yr cheerleader, 4.4 gpa every semester, only took AP’s and honors but was rejected from multiple colleges and universities. it has had a huge impact on my life and it truly put me into a downward spiral. i dealt with severe anxiety the summer prior to my first semester at CC.

now i’m finishing up my second year at CC! it’s gone by fast but i am so so so excited for what the future holds! after watching friends go off to uni, i’ve waited two years and i’m just pumped!

my stats:

major: biochem
alt major: chem
GPA: 3.80 (fall), 3.55 (TAU)
IGETC: one more course this spring (found out i needed it a week before spring sem started…don’t you love CC counselors lmao)
Major Prep: finish by spring 2020
TAG: UCSB
Applies: UCSD, UCSB, UCI, CSULB

idk about you guys but i’m so nervous to hear back. i am beyond fearful of rejection again and i don’t know how i’m gonna get the courage to open up the portal when admissions are released!

anyways thanks for reading my bio lol! Good luck everyone, sending positive vibes!!!

Oof! I am definitely not a competitive applicant within the field I intend to major in, but I’ve been looking at these threads for quite some time now––might as well join in the fun! Previously, I was on the pre-nursing track hence why my GPA is sad (IMO).

Here are my stats as listed:

Major: Poli Sci/Public Law
Alt. Major: Poli Sci/Data Analytics

GPA: 3.4 something lol (feeling unconfident about my GPA tbh. It’s on the lower end for UCSD according to the 2018 transfer data)

IGETC: Finished in Spring Quarter 2020 (one left. I’m annoyed at my cc’s counselors lol)

Major Prep: Finished in Winter Quarter 2020 (technically finished in Spring Quarter, but the classes I am required to be done for my intended major are done this winter quarter. yay! my alt. major’s prep has been done since fall 2019 )

TAG: UCR (honestly, I wish I did not tag UCR, but it is what it is)

Applied: UCSD, UCSB, UCR, SFSU, Sac State, Fullerton, CSULB, SDSU (wishing I applied to one or two more UC schools, but oh well)

UCtransfer2020, you asked about finishing IGETC in the summer…I heard nope. That was from a specific counselor at a specific UC, don’t recall which right now.

UC / Major GPA: 3.8 & 4.0
IGETC / Major Prereqs: Fall 2019
CCC Transfer
Female / 26 years old
Major: Urban Studies and Planning
Alternate: Political Science: Public Policy
Essays: 7 - 9 out of 10
EC - local animal shelters, started working full time and moved out immediately after high school
Applying: SFSU, UCD, UCB, UCSD, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Stanford
Accepted: SFSU, UCD (TAG)

I guess it is my turn! I wonder if UCSD will read this haha

UC / Major GPA: 3.68, 3.5
IGETC / Major GPA: Spring 2020, only need one class
Major: Economics
Alternate: don’t want to say if they are looking lol
Essays: I thought they were a 9/10 first read, then after two months still hold up
EC- President of Econ Club, Intern at an investment firm
Applied: UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, CAL

Finally my turn to post on here after almost a year of looking at everyones stats!

Major: International Studies - International Business
GPA: 3.60
Extracurriculars: Co-president of San Diego Commerce Club, constantly worked part time, UNA member, taught Hebrew at my temple, PTK member

Good luck!

The 2019 thread had about 85 pages of people chiming in…this year there are only two pages. Ive found this a common issue on many college threads I’ve looked at. 2019 is popping with participation and this year its super bare. What is up with that?

@Herbidot yes all the threads were popping last year, I was there lol. Im sure the threads will gain more traction closer to decisions. UCSD was the last acceptance letter I got last year so don’t hold your breath.

If i’m not mistaken they were the last to send out decisions period when its usually Berkeley.

@DiamondCalmDown Which day last year did they release?
