UC San Diego Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

@jt1015 Thanks mane

@PursuitOfKnowledgee: I would look into Cognitive Science or Neuroscience as possible options to see if your Pre-med courses overlap with either of these majors which are not capped. Both programs are highly rated at UCSD.

You can check major academic plan to see if either of these majors will work for you:

https://plans.ucsd.edu/

If neither will work, I think you will need to determine if UCSD is the school you should attend and consider other schools where you got into their Biology program.

Both Biology and Psychology as a stand alone BS degree will actually require some kind of Graduate school for you to be a viable candidate for job opportunities.

Just FYI, I personally just got accepted to UCSD for Biochemistry in fall 2020 as a pre-med, but I didn’t even complete half of their required courses for the major. I guess UCSD has a rep for letting CC transfers take some/most of their required courses for a specific major instead of ALL required courses. It’s weird. I only did 1 year Bio, gen chem, and calculus. I didn’t even start on Physics or Ochem.

TBH I might have my offer rescinded though, since I recently withdrew from Calculus 2 in Spring 2020 and registered for summer 2020 instead. Hope they are ok with it cuz of all this COVID-19 stuff happening. But they’ve already been so lax by accepting me so I’m not expecting much. Anyway my main point was that if you do super well in at least half of your prerequisites, I think you can still apply and get accepted.

Thank you, I’ll definitely research more into these majors and see if they’ll be a fit for me if not hopefully this counseling meeting I have set up will give me more facts about the situation so I can make a decision

@tinyuzi Hi! do you mean accepted to UCSD or accepted to medical school? I’ve already been accepted into UCSD but as my 2nd major Psychology which is the dilemma that I’m still trying to figure out. I’ve been getting so much advice that is really helping me to decide whether I should go to UCSD for Psych or another uncapped major for pre-meds or go to UCR for my original bio major.

@PursuitOfKnowledgee Ohh I misunderstood. It’s funny cuz I’m also tryna decide between UCR and UCSD for pre-med. I feel like since you’re admitted for Psychology and not a STEM major at UCSD, it’d be a better idea to go to UCR for Biology. Their program is setup and catered just for pre-meds. So you won’t have to do a bunch of extra classes or end up behind or anything. I got accepted to their Biochemistry program and they have a “medical” sub-path in that major just for that reason.

Whatever you end up choosing I’m sure you’ll do fine. Good luck!

Lurked on here for a bit so here we go

ACCEPTED for Poli Sci/Public Law in Muir College
3.65 gpa and ccc transfer
All major prerequisites done - I even purposely took more major classes than I had to

Accepted: Cal State San Marcos, Sac State, Cal Poly SLO, San Diego State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego
Rejected: UC Berkeley
Waitlisted: UCLA

EC’s: Just mentioned the key things I did in high school and the jobs that I’ve held down in college.

Essays: Worked hard on them. Had them revised multiple times and they were very personal. I’d give them a 10/10

I’m leaning towards SIRing to UCSD but I’m still hoping to get off UCLA’s waitlist!

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that my admit packet just came in today!
I was so surprised that it came so quickly, but I’m also from San Diego so it’s understandable

Anyone have a link for the Facebook Transfer page? Can’t seem to find it

@2km2km sameee

Did anyone get an email saying “please go to your applicant portal for an important message from chancellor khosla”? It says there’s a tab on the portal that you can click to view this, but I can’t find anything. Anybody else have luck or know what it says?

@NavyGuy2019 @2km2km I messaged you

@djbassbaby I got the same email and theres no tab

@Katxlalala Yeah, might just be a mistake. was a bit concerned they were gonna be like “you were actually rejected sorry” haha

@Katxlalala btw could you send me the link for the fb grp?

@PursuitOfKnowledgee I am in a similar situation as you as well. This is from the UCSD website itself:
“We think that majors within the Psychology department are exceptional choices for students considering degrees in Healthcare! Our majors offer flexible requirements, interesting courses, internships and research, study abroad opportunities, and more! Many of our Lower Division course requirements overlap with Health Professional School prerequisites, and our majors also help you prepare for the Behavioral Sciences section of the MCAT.
It is important to plan ahead if you want to keep your options open for Health Professional School in the future; we recommend that you complete as many of our transfer preparation courses (Lower Division major requirements) as possible and that you consider completing the maximum number of prerequisites for your health professional school as well, as it is not possible to complete all Medical School prerequisites, for example, on campus at UC San Diego after transfer without going over your maximum units.”

@djbassbaby im the same way! I also dont have my financial aid despite doing my FAFSA in january. I tried calling and the message is due to covid 19 we arent in the office email us. I emailed friday and the reply says 10 to 14 days. So I’m already freaking out

Of course :smile:

@djbassbaby @Katxlalala

There is a letter, its at a tab at the very top of the transfer portal. This is what it says:

"Congratulations on your admission to UC San Diego! We look forward to welcoming you as a member of our proud Triton family this fall.

In light of the current evolving public health crisis, we are preparing a variety of contingency plans for instruction and housing because the health and safety of our campus community is our top priority.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

At this time, it is our intention to offer courses across all of our divisions, colleges, programs and majors through a combination of in-person and remote instruction. We are working closely with local public health officials and will continue to refine the balance between in-person and remote offerings as the situation evolves. Depending on the public health context, it may become necessary to transition our classes to exclusively remote learning; if that happens, we will notify you as soon as possible. You will receive an outstanding UC San Diego education no matter the method of instructional delivery.

Given the uncertainty the world faces, we recognize that some students may not be able to safely travel to campus for fall quarter. We plan to continue to offer remote instruction as part of our approach for fall 2020 in a way that ensures students who cannot be present are still able to have a rich and high-quality educational experience.

Likewise, our academic support services through the divisions, departments, colleges and Teaching + Learning Commons will be available in both in-person and remote formats to meet students’ needs. Student-centered co-curricular program related to recreation, skill-building, internships, and other aspects of campus life will also be offered both on campus and online, to ensure a vibrant student community experience.

TUITION AND FEES

Mandatory university charges for tuition and student services help cover infrastructure and ongoing operations such as the delivery of instruction and the cost of student services such as registration, financial aid, remote academic advising and tutoring. Tuition and mandatory fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction and will not be refunded in the event instruction occurs remotely for any part of the academic year.

Campus-based fees support campus services, maintain facilities, and broadly support and preserve the campus infrastructure. As campus operations adjust to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, our dedicated team of professionals remains committed to delivering the highest quality service possible. Campus-based fees will continue to be collected and will not be refunded.

HOUSING & DINING

We are working to balance our commitment to on-campus living while also promoting public health and safety during this crisis. At this time, it is our intention to keep residential halls and apartments open, but we are eliminating triple-occupancy housing options to improve social distancing. We are working closely with and will follow all directives from our local public health authorities. If public health considerations cause us to implement remote-only instruction, we make the following commitments to you:

We will continue to provide a UC San Diego-quality education in a remote setting.
We will not charge students for the unused portion of their university-owned housing and dining contracts. If this occurs, we will work with students to facilitate necessary adjustments to financial aid awards.
UC San Diego is committed to your health and safety. We are fortunate to be home to one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers where UC San Diego students can receive world-class medical care.

We encourage you to learn more about UC San Diego’s response to COVID-19 and contact us with any concerns:

Pradeep K. Khosla
Chancellor"
