UC San Diego Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

@ucsdacceptme Ayyyy nice to know I’m not the only one here lol. Yeah, I know that gen chem 2 might hurt me but… I’m planning to take it in the summer so if you really think about it I would be taking O chem by the time I’m set for my first quarter anyway. Hopefully, they think about it the same way I do lol. And I’m hoping since I did physics which isn’t required before transfer that kind of replaces that missing class. And thanks for linking @kristinpete reading their post really gives me hope that it’s possible lol.

Hopefully next week we all can come back to this thread with some great news!

@PursuitOfKnowledgee I hope they think that way too! Since ucr accepted you and they are understanding I would assume that it should be fine but each campus is different.

Like you said I hope we all get some good news next week! Sooner rather than later hopefully lol.

@PursuitOfKnowledgee It’s funny how time affects your memory. I forgot all my stats and had to look up an old thread to copy. :lol:

Major: Microbiology
College: Roosevelt (first choice)
GPA: 3.5
CCC transfer
IGETC: Needed 2nd/3rd parts of physics series
Rest of major prep done
EC: Volunteering in community, part of STEM programs at my college, in charge/and member of some clubs, I did an internship
Essays: I think they were strong. I talked about extracurriculars I was involved in, my preparation for the major, a risk I took with my education, and my individuality.

Accepted: UCSB, UCI (TAG), CSUSB, CSULB, UCSD ***
Waitlisted: UCLA

Regarding your situation, you had me going there with all the missing chemistry until you told me you finished your physics (like a boss :sunglasses: ). Are you pre-med by any chance? I don’t think your GPA is that bad tbh, I’ve met people that got into UCSD with much lower GPAS than yours, so if your essays and rest of your application is spot on you have a solid chance of getting in, in my opinion. I think a major plus for you is that you’re coming from a CA CC (higher priority for transfers) AND UCSD is your feeder school. I’m not sure if you’ve heard that before, but it’s your local university so they should be/tend to admit many students from their area. (Mine was UCR - I got in during high school. Didn’t care to reapply.)

If I were you, the two things I’d be concerned about are the missing gen chem (not necessarily the o chem) and the fact that you’re not sure who you’re competing against for the applications. I think it’s a really good sign that UCR would allow you to take it there, that means there’s a chance that UCSD will do the same. After checking the past transfer stats, your GPA isn’t that far out of range, so I think you have a solid chance of acceptance if the rest of your application is solid. I hope you get in! :slight_smile: Hope this helped.

@IBkidonthestreet Yes, I’m pre-med and we seem to have some similarities with our EC’s. I also did some volunteering such as being a children’s Sunday school teacher for 4+ years as well as volunteering at a school for the deaf and blind. I was also a member of a pre-medical student association at my old CC and have worked 25+ hours a week ever since I’ve started school.

I also spent a lot of time on my essays and got them edited constantly so I think they encompass who I am really well. Hopefully, this will be enough to push me over the edge. Your response really made me feel a lot better about my situation thank you so much. :smile:

Just got rejected from UC Berkeley but I really hope UCSD will give me the opportunity to go here!

Major: Economics, possibly double in Real Estate Development
GPA: 3.65
IGETC: Will finish by spring 2020
Major Prep: Will finish by spring 2020
EC’s/Community Service: Financial Advisor Intern for firm in CA, AIDS Walk, American Heart Walk 5k 2x, several internships in high school
Essay: role as assistant manager at a juice bar, internships, the importance of being a quality student in the classroom, my obsession with investments/trading in the stock market.

Applied: UCSB tag, UCSD, UC Berkeley
Denied: UC Berkeley as of now

@IBkidonthestreet Thank you so much for the detailed response! I really appreciate it!

Yeah I agree being an oos students does put you on a slight disadvantage since UCs give their highest priority to CCC students. I received my first rejection letter today from UW madison which I assume it’s because I did not attend an cc inside Wisconsin. And just like you mentioned maybe not all courses that have same alignment. I just hope the same circumstance not happening again for my UC applications. I attended high school in CA and really wish to come back again.

Anyway thanks again! At this point I am kinda scared to proceed to next week, which is most likely the decision week. But hope UCSD can give me a chance…

@matrixxd Nice meet you! I am so sorry to bother you but may I ask you some questions about your transfer process since we are both OOS applicants?

So first of all sorry for this belated congratulation, I know it’s extremely hard to transfer as an OOS, which I am about to experience the same routine next week lol. I just wanna ask how many credits that you eventually transfer to UCSD? And if one of the courses that you took in your previous institution wasn’t offered in UCSD, will they exclude this course from the 60 uc- transferable credits? And will this kind of “course differences” affect your chances for getting in?

Unfortunately I didn’t explain the situation because I assumed when they see an incomplete, it’s due to an unfortunate circumstance at the time. It was definitely a mistake. If that does go against me and UCSD doesn’t accept me, I plan to appeal with more info. Also thank you for your detailed response, it helped a lot.

@bignono

I also had an incomplete grade in fall 2019 due to a family emergency. UCD asked me two weeks before my admission decision when my incomplete grade will be complete. I haven’t heard from any other UC campuses reaching out to me about my incomplete grade ( its complete now with a passing grade), so I am a little worried that I was only accepted to Davis.

@99suhjw Congratulations on Davis! Yeah I’m just worried about the UCSD admissions cause it’s the school I would love to go to the most. Hope it works out for the both of us.

@Jay0720

Haha yea I remember it was a complete hassle transferring from OOS.

Looking at my academic history, I had 61 OOS semester-credits transfer into UCSD. Keep in mind this is excluding AP scores, which they WILL count if you don’t reach that 60 credit minimum.

Generally, as long as you came from an ABET-accredited school, most of your courses should count. I only had about 2 courses not count for UC credit, and those were introductory classes like “Freshman Seminar”. Seriously, I took some really weird classes like “Study Abroad Renaissance/Baroque Art” and they counted that. (my major is Software Engineering ??)

Course differences definitely do not make a difference in your admissions. As long as you show progress in your related major, they don’t care that your OOS’s curriculum doesn’t exactly line up. Now course equivalency is another thing, but you don’t have to worry about that until you get in. For UC-transferable credits you are good.

Good luck on the OOS journey bro!

@matrixxd OMG bro thank you so much for helping me answer these questions! I was suffering in anxiety the past few months that Courses difference may lead to rejection, especially OOS school doesn’t have any sorts of articulation agreements with UCs when it comes to courses transferring. It was great to hear that this factor doesn’t affect my chances of getting into UCSD.

So correct me if I am wrong bro, if you complete 60 transferable credits in the previous college you should be fine right? And UC judges your courses’ equivalency after you are admitted. Hope my interpretation matches yours.

Anyway bro thanks once again! Good luck to the rest of your school year and hope we can become alumni!

@Jay0720

Yup you’re correct! I transferred from Software Engineering into Cognitive Science, so a lot of my credits didn’t even count towards the major, but they still accepted me! If you meet the 60 units, you’re golden.

Hope you come back to Cali bro :wink:

Most likely Friday but there also a slight chance they’d release Thursday too!

@ucsdacceptme Why is there a chance they’d release on thursday?

Apparently the last few years have been released on Thursday, but who knows, it’s all speculation. I would say confidently that it will be this week, not sure which day.

Honestly tho it could be anytime this week or next week they don’t really seem to follow a pattern the only pattern I noticed is that they released on the 26 for two years in a row so that could potentially mean we might even have to wait another week. Ofc this is all my assumptions.

@Jay0720

omg I’m so glad I’m not the only oos transfer who applied. I’m coming from UNLV and the stuff with my course credits gave me so much anxiety over the past months but all your questions (and people’s responses) made me feel so much better

@ucsdacceptme 24,

@cpen13 Ayeee nice to meet you! Yeah I can rarely find other OOS transfers throughout this year and last year’s threads… And there are only about 1000 spots for oos transfer since 90-95% of admitted students are from CCC, which definitely make every one of us overwhelming. Anyway wish you the best! Hopefully we both get good news by the end of this week!
