@Jay0720 nice to meet u too! I tried to make my stats as competitive as possible (I have a 3.98 gpa and a decent amount of extracurriculars) but hopefully it goes well its so scary lol. But I wish you the best of luck too!!
Crazy that UC Irvine’s transfer page has 87 pages of comments and UCSD’s transfer only has 8 pages, seeing as how I think UCSD is overall a better/more prestigious school. Is it just due to the amount of people from LA near Irvine?
It’s because everyone went crazy waiting for decisions to come out everyday and when it did it also got spammed with IG usernames:/
Yeah its because UCI admissions roll out and everyone was speculating…
UCSD hasn’t been ranked higher than UC Irvine since the early 2010s! This was largely due to an admissions mistake back then; UCSD overenrolled a class of freshmen and basically overpopulated the school, which led to a series of internal blunders that made the campus a difficult environment for students to succeed in - there was a serious lack of housing even with doubles being turned into triples, it was even harder to get classes, etc.
After that, UCSD’s ranking dropped a lot and they essentially fell out of Tier 1 (they were originally right below Cal and LA). They’re still working on getting back up, since they’re not quite considered competitive as an overall school with how well UCSB and UC Irvine are doing at the moment, either. That being said, its STEM programs are still pretty top notch and their on-site medical school is a huge plus, too.
Do you guys think that the next wave of dec

@thewisherr So, are you saying that UCI Is a more difficult school to get into? I just got waitlisted from Irvine but I have a couple missing major prep like organic chemistry which they require to be done before transfer but UCSD doesn’t. would you say that since I got waitlisted Because of a missing major prep in a weird way would you say I have a better shot of getting into UCSD and UCSB? I’m a Biology major by the way neither UCSD or UCSB require organic chemistry before transfer.
Any insight from anyone would be appreciated.
The last statistic I read had UCI and UCSD about tied for admission rates. For my major I believe that UCSD is a better choice provided they accept me haha.

I was initially going to argue this because I swear that I’ve read/heard differently (maybe its just reading peoples opinions online) but ya after some research it seems that according to US News and Report Irvine is ranked 4th behind UCLA, Berkeley, and Santa Barbara. Damn Im surprised that they’re ahead of UCSD and also Im surprised how far UCSB has come in the past 10 years
Edit: Obviously US News and Report isn’t the end all, be all of rankings and different schools have different successes for each major
Its important to remember that it dosen’t matter that much, each school has it’s own strengths and weaknesses, some offer programs that others don’t. Really buy comparing uci, ucsd, and ucsb your comparing gold to silver, they are all top 50 schools in the country, any of them will provide an excellent education!
UCSD all the way. I was keen on UCI in high school though b/c my stats weren’t that good.
Provided they accept me, UCSD is life.
So as the portal says we’ll be notified no later than April 30th do we think that’s the day or do we think it’ll be earlier?
@Cole440 Well seeing as how gold is much more valuable than silver, I’ve always seen UCSD as that gold spot compared to UCI. But UCSB and UC Davis kind sexy tho not gonna lie.
@sacarey1999 In past years its released on the 24th so it could be this Friday and some are thinking that’s when UCLA might release too, but once again all speculation
@Herbidot Oh okay thanks. In regard to UCLA I have a semi inside source at UCLA saying the 22nd so I would expect that but by no means guaranteed.
@PursuitOfKnowledgee I don’t think it’s necessarily more difficult. I think (? you could fact check this) that the admission rates are still pretty similar. And honestly, college admissions don’t always follow perfect logic either.
Some schools take missing transfer prereqs pretty seriously, but if UCSB and UCSD don’t require the class you’re missing, that’s definitely good news!
Even though rankings exist, you’ll get a solid education through any of the Tier 2 schools - it’ll be more about what you make of your education there, rather than some crazy difference in resources available.
@sacarey1999 Well that’s good to know about UCLA. That would be awesome if UCSB, UCSD, and UCLA all released tomorrow!
Not sure if this means anything but the ucsd admissions social media accounts have been fairly quiet these past few days after posting consistently everyday. I might be looking into it too much but maybe it’s cause they’ll release soon since they did the same thing before freshman decisions.
I’m just too anxious lol I’m so tired of waiting!
I would love if they released it today lol
I would love it too. I hope they know how anxious we all are haha
