I was looking at UCSD and was wondering about Jacob’s School of Engineering. How does that tie into the residential colleges? I know that the six residential colleges have their own requirements and styles as far as academics go, but what is different when you are accepted into Jacob’s School of Engineering? Is the engineering school basically a place where you go to your engineering class IN ADDITION to fulfilling the requirements of your residential college around the university with other classes?

May not be able to help directly, but it’s true what you said about each college having it’s own core classes to take. This, along with doing a campus tour, sealed our son’s decision NOT to apply to UCSD.

If you can, do a campus tour. It makes all the difference in the world to get a first-hand look at the campus and to be able to ask questions of students that attend there already.
