How does it work with the alternate majors? Do the admissions people really give the application a hard second look through that alternate lens before deciding to waitlist or deny? How do they decide between waitlisting someone for the primary major versus admitting that student for the alternate major? @lkg4answers @Gumbymom
I wonder the same. Some say that their acceptance letter says CCS decision to come. My daughter’s doesn’t. Strange.

The process is algorithmic. I reviewed my admissions file after I enrolled here. There’s a score assigned for a person’s ECs/Essays and grades, etc. There’s specific cutoffs for each major based on demand (number of applicants) and expected yield, etc.
^^ this is for engineering, L&S doesn’t have admit by major
What were the 2 majors listed? College of Engineering and CCS are the only 2 schools that consider alternate majors. For both if the primary major is listed as an Engineering or CCS major, the alternate major needs to be in the College of L&S to be considered.
Thanks for the update. When my daughter looks further into her portal, it shows her major as Physics Creative Studies, but the letter says that because she applied CCS, she will be contacted by them directly to let her know if she was accepted. I guess she will wait for verification. Congrats to all accepted!
My daughter applied CCS Physics first choice and L&S Physics second choice. In the letter, It gives a link if she needs to change major if she is not accepted to CCS, but in the portal it shows her accepted major as CCS Physics. It’s a bit confusing, but I’m sure it will all become clear in the next couple of days

@BeachMomOf2 I’m not sure where you live or what the major is but my older son was rejected from UCSB in 2021 and he was devastated. He is from California and is a business major. He is at CU Boulder at Leeds (business) and he is living his best life and so happy. In retrospect he wouldn’t be getting as good of a business education at UCSB since they don’t have business (Only accounting and Econ). He is very happy and it all worked out. Just trying to provide some hope
You need to be admitted before CCS will notify you - if I remember correctly last year our daughter received word within a few days of the acceptance to UCSB.
