D24 waitlisted for communication but on a brighter note, was named as one of her school’s valedictorian.
Congratulations to all accepted! I was wondering if regents has already come out?
Yeah apparently it came out a few weeks ago before decisions
Thanks! Is this confirmed?
Yes I saw the email
Are you sure it was Regents and not just the early acceptance?
I think that may have been a separate email if that one existed as well
Ok I checked and the email says congratlations for regents specifically
Wow, congratulations! Last time I checked Regents is super selective, 0.5% acceptance rate or something like that. If you’re comfortable sharing, what were you/your child’s stats?
Thank you. It was not my child but a friend of theirs who took a lot of the AP classes and did a lot of extra curriculars instead of mine who just plays the video games. They said that only they got it in their school.
Interesting. I took 13 APs 9th-11th, and got admitted early, but no Regents. Makes sense that they’re looking for a lot more than pure academics.
I’m sorry that you were not able to, but congratulations for being admitted.
So — what might UCSB be like for a shy kid who doesn’t party? And also, how are the dorms?
S24 was admitted to CCS for Math. We would love for him to attend as his twin most likely will be going and it would make it much easier! However he got accepted to UCLA and right now it looks like that is his top choice.
I have to believe your son is very high on the waitlist. Your son’s stats are almost identical to my son who applied CS, but was admitted under his alternate major of Statistics and Data Science. My son also had 11 APs (but two 4s and the rest 5s) with 4 DE courses. My son had an unweighted 4.0 and a fully weighted 4.7. I think your son’s extracurriculars are stronger.
My son was also rejected by UCSD, UCLA, as well as UCI, though he was waitlisted at UCD too. My son was accepted at SDSU and UCSC, and didn’t apply to the other schools. As a result, before UCSB announced its decisions, my son’s only options were SDSU and UCSC and we planned to tour both before he made his decision. One small difference, but I’m not sure it means anything, is that we live in Ventura County fairly close to UCSB. I really hope the waitlist works out for one of the UCs if that’s where your son wants to go, but wherever your son goes I hope he’s excited. It’s such an amazing time in life.
Aren’t the waitlists random? Meaning not ranked in any way? I think UCSB says that on their website, which makes it all a bit of luck. But I could be wrong. I have a waitlisted child as well. Good luck to all!
I just searched it and I guess I’m wrong. That really does make it a bit of luck. I wonder how they randomize the list?
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if admissions were intentionally random from those that made it into a select qualifier pool, because the number of high stats applicants is so large and the number of admits are relatively small. The wait-lists could represent those kids remaining in that pool that did not get randomly chosen for admission. This is just speculation on my part and It might not work this way, but random admits from a pool of highly qualified students would probably be the fairest way of doing it because differences between all of these highly qualified students in final scores issued by whatever criteria they are ranking on are unlikely to be statistically significant.
Anyone have any insight into how the waitlists are randomized?
D24 Admitted but to alternate major in Letters and Science instead of ME. Does anyone know if there is a chance to get into 1st choice of major? I feel like it would have been better to be waitlisted.
