UC Santa Barbara Class of 2029 Official Thread

Does anyone know if being senior class president really helps with UC acceptances?

My opinion is that any EC is a good EC but what is important is what the student does in that position vs. the title itself.
As Senior class president what impact did the student have on others and what did they learn from their experience along with how was this was conveyed on the application is what can make a difference when their application is reviewed.

Will this one EC help in being accepted, yes it can but how much really depends upon all the other aspects of the application since the UC’s use a holistic approach.

Did any applicant from NY got an invitation for a reception honoring top NY applicants? Is this a good sign or many get it?

It is a very good sign. If you can make it, I would encourage you to attend.

Can you share the date that was on the invite?

@college0369

Is the reception date?

Can everyone register here? Even if someone wasn’t invited.
I’m wondering if being registered means I was invited. Is everyone able to register, or does the system only allow certain students to register?

No, you have to be invited to register and it requires your UCSB Permanent ID number which is listed in the invite.

Are there any in state students who got this invite?

Received financial aid email from UCSB. Appears to be a mass email.

in-state, got Berkeley early. No info yet, portal says decision pending.

Unless they change things, everyone’s portal will say decision pending until mid March when they release admission decisions.

Some students will receive an invite to a Chancellor’s Reception. Those students will find out good news at the reception. Even if they receive verbal notification, their portals won’t be updated until mid March.

Note that there are only a few receptions. Regents and other top students might not live within close proximity (as determined by UCSB) to one of the receptions. If that is the case, they won’t receive an invite to a reception.

Is it guaranteed that all students that were invited will receive a verbal notification at the reception? Or only some students that were invited and attend will be notified of their admission?

In the past, everyone who received an invite to a reception was admitted.

My son has a weighted 4.1, multiple AP classes, 4 year Varsity Basketball player. He scored a 5 on AP Calc AB test will that help him? Currently in AP CALC BC. He applied under Math hoping AP Score will help him

As far, as i understand, the AP test scores are used to determine credits post admission. However, since you can enter the AP score in the UC application, I am sure they will make a note of it, which will validate/corelate with his school AP grade.

@CA-Dad is correct that UCSB uses AP scores for credit. AP course grades are far more important than the exam scores. Some UC’s use AP exam scores to give context to the AP course grades.
