My son got one yesterday- 2/25, too. We are in NorCal & will be attending the San Jose event!
Congratulations!
For those who are wondering how large of an area is invited to the San Jose event, do you mind sharing approximately how far you are from the reception location?
We are 56 miles from the San Jose reception.
Also, he got both a mailed invite & an emailed invite.
Congrats! My son did too for the San Jose reception! @SunSteel- No updates to portal.
We are in Sacramento, about 100 miles from San Jose. Email only, no physical letter
Got the physical letter in the mail today.
Based on last year’s timing and figures, hopefully regent notification this week as well?
Someone posted last year they were told 2% invited to reception. 1% received regent?
Hmmm. Maybe you are right. I don’t know. Regents award was (if I remember correctly) part of admissions letter. Although we knew beforehand that he got in because CCS teacher personally invited him to anevent.
UCSD regents meanwhile wasn’t mentioned in the acceptance at all. I am glad we checked the financial award because that’s when “congratulations you were awarded regents scholarship” appeared. They all do things so differently.
Although without priority enrollment, I am not sure how desirable UCSB regents is.
I see… Called the office and they said it was a miscommunication? Super unprofessional and I’m a bit upset…
Curious if there are any OC invitees or further south-San Diego etc.
Top 2% sounds very competitive for top schools as well
The original notice was miscommunication or the cancellation?
Is it purely top 2%? Or top 2% by major? By college?
It looks like from the forums that both UCB and UCSB are vying for the same group of applicants for their EA/Regents. Would help them (UCSB, in particular) to cast a wider net as their yield will be less if targeting the same group of applicants.
No priority class registration at UCSB for Regent Scholars. The school removed that perk in 2021. But as a ChemE major, he has not had a problem getting classes. He might not get his preferred time or teacher, but needed classes are available. Regents do get priority housing, so my son has a great ocean view dorm room this year.
There will be overlap but several UCB regents did not get the UCSB chancellor invite so I guess UCSB is using a different criteria?
We live in OC and we receive an invite in the mail today
Are you saying UCSB and UCB “like” similar applicants? That’s interesting.
In our local high school the strong correlation has always been between UCSD and UCLA. No kid who hasn’t gotten into UCSD has made it to UCLA, but plenty into UCB. This according to out school counselor.
I got physical mail and an email to the chancellor’s program/invitation, but office said “it was sent to you by mistake.” Unprofessional.
That’s good to know! Thank you!
