@gumbymom I don’t know if you still remember me haha I was on these forums back in like 2022 as a high school senior. I usually check in on this thread every year or so around admissions season. I think this will be the last time I will be checking in, as I’m about to graduate in June Here’s my post from many years ago: It is hard to put into words the impact that UCSB has had on me throughout these last four years. It has shaped me into who I am today. I met my closest friends here, did research with world class professors, interned for amazing companies, went to parties to unwind on the weekends and had the unforgettable experience of living in Isla Vista with all of my friends and fellow students, literally steps away from the beach. What is the difference between accepted students events and the open house? Would you recommend one over the other for an accepted student?

why did u choose sb over sjsu and is access to internships and jobs good? i low key want to do a masters but idk to choose between both of them and i am also coming from a bay area high school and i kind of want to get away and is computer engineering as cuthroat as berk or la or other schools

My 2 cents. Every year high school students discuss their fears of known “cutthroat” schools and majors. Berkeley making the most common appearance in these discussions.

I have never once heard an actual student at one of these schools or majors say that this is an accurate characterization. Hard workers? For sure. But the idea that students are actively undermining each other is some kind of persistent urban legend, maybe based on some one in a million anomalous events.

I am in computer engineering and this summer I am helping to design CPUs for one of the three companies: Nvidia, AMD and Intel. I got interviews for 2 of the 3 companies. I don’t want to say the exact company for privacy reasons
