Hi guys! I’m new here. I’m really nervous about college decisions as I went through a really hard time my freshman year at CC and my grades suffered. Was hoping somebody could give me a little insight on how I’m looking…
A few stats about me:
Dream school: UC Santa Barbara
Also applied to: UC Santa Cruz, UCSD, Humboldt, Cal State Long Beach
Major: English
Female
Middle-Eastern/White
Cumulative GPA: 2.875 (I have all A’s in my classes right now, so I’m hoping it will raise by the end of the semester to above a 3.0)
IGETC: completed
major preparatory classes: completed according to 2018 articulation agreement
almost all A’s in my major classes
3 F’s (2 of which I am next semester/already have made up)
Community college: Glendale Community (CA)
Anyways I would appreciate it if anybody decides to look this over… On paper I know I’m not the best candidate but on the website it said a min. gpa of 2.4 for in state residents so I’m hopeful. I love UCSB it’s my dream…
For my major, I will have all of them done by spring 2020 (PL), but…assist.org says that “Applicants without all of the REQUIRED courses will be reviewed for admission, but will have less competitive applications”.
So instead of spring 2020, do they mean courses completed by fall 2019? It confused me at first because usually, when a UC says “need these courses for admission”, it means finish them by spring, not fall. A couple of other UC’s (who I’ve talked to) don’t mind them being done by spring 2020.
But is that odd requirement a UCSB-exclusive kind of thing? Should I be worried about not having all of my reqs done by fall 2019? @Ohm888@Gumbymom
@uhhduckduckgoose It is not a UCSB exclusive thing. Many of the UCs consider how many “major prep” courses that you have completed prior to the spring. While you do have the option to take them in the spring, you are at a competitive disadvantage because other students have completed them and they can see for sure what the result was for them.
If you have completed most of the major prep work, you still have a good chance. A 3.7 GPA is competitive for the college of engineering at UCSB. The admit range for chemical engineering was 3.57-3.90, 3.64-3.92 for computer engineering, and 3.59-3.88 for electrical engineering. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
Hey everyone! I haven’t received any email about creating a transfer/applicant account for UCSB but I’ve heard back from all the other schools I’ve applied to. Is anyone else having this issue as well?
Major: Chemical Engineering
GPA: 3.66
IGETC: finished
Major Prep: will finish by spring 2020
TAG: UCI
Applied to: UCSB, UCSD, UCI, Cal Poly SLO, Stony Brook - SUNY
I’ve been looking at these threads for quite some time now and I thought might as well join in the fun! Previously, I was on the pre-nursing track hence why my GPA is sad (IMO).
Here are my stats as listed:
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.4 something lol (it’s eh. it’s within the 25th to 75th percentile according to UCSB’s 2018 transfer data, so I’m feeling okay…but the data is only indicative so)
IGETC: Finished in Spring Quarter 2020 (one left. I’m annoyed at my cc’s counselors lol)
Major Prep: Finished in Spring Quarter 2020 (one left)
TAG: UCR (honestly, I wish I did not tag UCR, but it is what it is)
Applied: UCSD, UCSB, UCR, SFSU, Sac State, Fullerton, CSULB, SDSU (wishing I applied to one or two more UC schools, but oh well)
i don’t know if this was already known, but i got an email recently that ucsb transfer admission decisions are going to be released on april 22nd! wishing everyone the best of luck. we got this
@audreyc915 No, they won’t… The UCSB portal says: “Decisions are being posted on this site beginning on March 17, 2020 for most freshman applicants. Decisions for transfer applicants are being announced on April 22, 2020.” Freshman decisions may be next week, but transfer decisions won’t be until April 22.
@transfergirl14 yes, i did! the received email regarding to housing is pertaining to individuals with families though. i got no family, so this email was very irrelevant to me, a very single student lol
I think the housing email is likely indicative of an acceptance. I didn’t get one and it’s highly likely I didn’t get in. My GPA falls within the average for English majors, but all English majors are required to take 5 quarters of foreign language (why???) and I’m not even halfway through that requirement, so I’m pretty sure I won’t get in. Congrats to everyone who got the email!
@jt1015 same I’m single too so I don’t get why I got that email lol maybe it is an indicator of acceptance lol, but highly doubt it , maybe because I’m 21 they might think I have a family or something like that. I honestly don’t know I’m just impatiently waiting lol !
@OlivesTasteGood I don’t think so honestly because I have a pretty average gpa for a highly competitive major. I think it might have to do with age or maybe something written on my application. I would keep checking maybe u might still get it.
