I wrote abt what i did to help ppl fight against covid, my future plans, and my mental health journey. I didn’t talk about my academics at all which may be why i got in. Also i submitted 1 rec letter written by my prof who’s a UCSB alumni. Hope this helps
I really want to transfer to UCSB for fall 2021. This fall my gpa will only be about 2.8 or 3.0 if I do even better as planned. I got a lot of C’s my first year of college because I did not know what I wanted to do and was lost being in college. After a year, my grades have improved and have gotten my gpa up. Do I have any hope? My major is Economics btw.
A lot of movement on the the waitlist this year! Congratulations everyone and welcome to UCSB!
I was accepted to UCSB for Economics.
It depends on what courses you got a lot of C’s in. Since you were lost & didn’t know what you wanted to do yet, hopefully, those courses were not your Econ major prerequisites.
My UCSB representative who visited our school said UCSB makes the admissions decision for Econ based on the 4 prerequisites: Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics. They are very important to UCSB. You really need A’s in those 4 courses. Getting a B in one of them will be fine but there will most likely be other students who got A’s in all 4 and therefore stand out.
You can get some C’s in the GE courses but UCSB also gives weight to an upward trend in grades. Remember, UCSB’s minimum overall GPA is 3.0 so you gotta have at least that to be accepted.
Focus on those 4 prerequisites I listed above though.
hi everyone i just officially committed to ucsb. i’ve been waiting for usc’s admission (hence the unfortunate username) i was wondering what you guys plan on doing for housing? especially with corona? i’m not sure if i want to move and pay rent in sb just to take online classes i could take at home without worrying about rent
I’m staying home & taking my classes from my dining room table.
Most of the college town shops are staffed by college students & they won’t be there so the college town is gonna be bare bones.
Most shops are staffed by students & students are staying home so it will be bare bones if you do move there. Besides, there’s going to be a 2nd wave in the Fall & you don’t want to be around a bunch of people during that.
