Uc santa cruz accounting.

How is uc santa cruz’s accounting emphasis program? Is it good? How many units do you have to take satisfy the emphasis?

all accounting majors now have the equivalent of 150 semester units but, i was unaware UCSC offered the major.

You can take an accounting emphasis in the economic management department. You do not need the extra 45 quarter units or 30 semester units if you are not planning to work in public accounting (the CPA route). Assuming you want to become a CPA, you will need and will come out short on the 225 quarter units or 150 semester units requirement. Therefore, take the extra courses in a community college or extension courses. Alternatively, finish you your degree under the normal route (180 quarter units) and get into a 1 year Masters in Accounting program. UCI and UCR both offers the 1 year Masters in Accounting program. Notably, USC offers the 1 year Masters program. There are probably other schools offering the program like the CSU’s, St. Mary’s and Santa Clara U.

The Big 4 accounting firms do recruit from UCSC, but they do not have as many slots for UCSC students as they would for UCB Haas, USC, UCLA (bus. econ.) or UCSB (accounting econ.).

The UCB Haas website also suggests alternatives to get the 5th year for student aspiring to become a CPA. Plan ahead. Good luck.

@Eromeo : also look at the CA State Board of Accountancy website for requirements if you are interested in becoming a CPA.
