Hopefully by the end of the week we’ll know more.
Thanks everyone for helping me to stay up to date on the waitlist situation. My daughter’s college counselor at her h.s. also confirmed that UCSC waitlist offers have not yet been initiated.
I emailed the admissions office and this was the response I got back:
Thank you for your email. The latest that students will hear from us is late July. When we do offer students admission off of the waitlist it is a very short turnaround time to accept. Be sure to continue to monitor your email and myUCSC portal from now throughout the summer to ensure you don’t miss any communications from our office.
This is really painful
I’m starting to really embrace the “love the place that wanted you from the get-go” ethos.
No for real, this process is so painful and tedious. To me it just doesn’t make sense why you wouldn’t have started rolling out acceptances by late April as you had every waitlist offer accepted or denied by then, and no doubt people have opened up spots. I understand that it is a lot more complex, but I can’t help but wish it was faster as we all do.
@Gumbymom If I have to accept a WL offer at one UC and decline another UC that I already SIR to, do I email the first school or is there a different process? Understand that I will lose the deposit at the first school.
You may be able to withdraw from the current UC through your student portal or you may have to email admissions. SIR to the new UC, make sure the enrollment goes through then withdraw from the other UC.
Thank you as always for your guidance!
Yep. As much as I wanted my kid to go to a UC, she committed to a school on the east coast and with each day, I’m happy she’s going out of state.
Does Gpa matter off the waitlist? Like the Gpa you had when you applied or do they just offer space to anyone on the waitlist?
The waitlist is just the continuation of the original admission process so all factors used in the application review will still apply along with what spots are available.
Do they consider the second prefrence major? I applied for Comp sci and i would assume that cs does not usually have many open spots available?
Yes, UCSC will consider your alternate major.
Has anyone heard back from them yet? I was anticipating something by the end of this week, but at least for me that was not the case.
Nothing here either! I wonder if anyone else has heard back… I know most of the other UCs have notified waitlisters. So frustrating!
Nothing yet here either.
Zilch over here, too.
Nope!
My theory is Santa Cruz is waiting a little longer because it’s a safety for a lot of UCSB and UC Davis applicants. Hopefully there will be some movement next week. It could also be that there won’t be as many waitlist spaces this year.
