UC Santa Cruz Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeal Discussion

Has anyone received an WL acceptance for Business/Economics? I hope we hear something soon either good or bad.

Some other person said that they usually take a week to see who accepts, so does that mean there wont be anything until this coming friday?

Likely not, but we also didn’t expect anything this Friday, so in the end, we know nothing haha

Congratulations! Can u pls share your weighted and unweighted gpa? My son is waitlisted for cs so want to check what gpa’s they started accepting.
thanks!

For what it’s worth, my daughter has been at UCSC for the past four years and never had a problem getting off campus housing, despite what you hear. It definitely takes some effort and advance planning, but she has been in two different places in great areas and close to campus. Rent is expensive, but less than than on-campus housing.

If he’s serious about majoring in Marine Bio, UCSC is great.

Good to know.

My son was notified Friday that he was admitted for Economics. At this point though, he’s underwhelmed with the UC admissions this year :frowning: and heavily considering doing cc for 2 years (where he plans to be an athlete) and aiming for UCLA.

Just not sure what to do. Still waiting on a few other UC waitlists.

Did any waitlist open this week?

Best to call the admissions office for an update. My impression is that they are almost done, but check with them to get the latest.

called admissions today and was told latest people get off is in July, and that ā€œstudents will be taken off the waitlist if more space becomes availableā€, so I’d infer that they’ve reached their targets as of now.

they also said that it’s fairly common that they’ll get more space off the waitlist as other schools release waitlist decisions, so the process is definitely not over yet. No word on the next wave or anything like that. Hope this helps

That doesn’t surprise me. We had a college counsellor tell us UCSC hasn’t gotten much harder to get into than just a few years ago.

sorry but can you clarify this? ā€œalmost doneā€ as in almost done with contacting the waitlisted applicants this year as a whole? or almost done finalizing the students to be contacted in the next wave?

I’d interpret it as each wave has filled the remaining spots they have left. As additional people ā€œmeltā€ and withdraw their SIR, more spots will open up to take people off of the waitlist. The last few years, UCSC has averaged about 15-20% ā€œmeltā€ of people withdrawing SIRs. My understanding is that last year’s large admission off of the waitlist was a bit of an outlier, in that they had a very low number of CS slots (which have typically have a high rate of people SIRing when admitted off of the waitlist). Thus, they had to go much deeper in the waitlist last year to fill all of the slots that opened up. The 2022 numbers at the top of this thread are likely more typical.
The ā€œAdmissions Funnelā€ tab of this page allows you to see the numbers for each step of the process for each year since 2015. Admissions Funnel [very slow to load data on that tab]

So there should be more spots opening up?

Give the admissions office a call next week. I’m just speculating, but yes, I meant that they are probably close to filling available spots. But this will go on thru July.
