Same with my kid!
Good luck to your daughter!
Thanks!
In same boat. If not notified today, we have to pay non-refundable fees at other school and move on.
It is always worth a try to ask for the a refund of the non-refundable fees. Some students receive them back. If you ask, the worst they can say is no.
i think we are done. this process is sucking the excitement out of it for my son. itās unfortunate. so if we pay the fees later today (which we must), heās going to stick with the other school and try to catch up because heās WAY behind (housing, orientation, planning, financial aid/loans). maybe itās a blessing in disguise, based on how long they are taking.
Painful.
My child is just read to throw in the towel. I wish these schools could just finalize rejections so we can move on.
Anyone with waitlist news?
Not a thing. Meanwhile, the other UCs seem to be firing off offers.
Nothing here either
Nope
Waitlist decisions have not come out for UCSC yet.
Thanks. Any idea when they might be coming out?
probably next week tuesday. from last year it looks like they give a week to decide, then wait a week after that, and then the week after thereās another wave. therefore, since the first wave was on May 28 (tuesday of last week), we are currently in the waiting week, so hopefully next week we see some movement (:
Just received an email from UCSC that Iāve been admitted into their CS program for Fall 2024.
My daughter (instate, local bay area) got admitted for Electrical Engineering off of waitlist yesterday. The notification came via e-mail.
Has any computer engineering waitlists come out? Also if so, will there be more waitlist waves coming after this last one yesterday? Really anxious for the email but scared it wonāt come haha.
My son got off WL on Friday June 7 via email. Heās in Undeclared Life and Health Sciences. Weāre now trying to decide between Biology at U Minnesota (#53 NU USNWR) vs UC Santa Cruz (#82 NU USNWR). Fiske guide says Biology and Marine Biology at SC is their strongest program. Along with the $15K lower price tag, should we go with SC?
Before committing to UCSC, I would look over the housing issues. For Freshman it is not a problem but Sophomore year and later is something that needs to be considered.
Agreed, but $15K extra to spend gives you a lot of options in the private rental market. The main problems are in finding affordable accommodation if you only have a budget of say $1500 per month.
Note also that waitlisted students are likely to be allocated to unpopular colleges (notably Oakes) which has proportionately more sophomore housing available than the most popular colleges at the top of the hill (which are closer to class).
Yes, the additional $15K/year offers more flexibility with housing options which is something to take into consideration along with the many other factors when making a decision. Just because UCSCās costs are lower does not always make it the best option for this particular student.
