@hoshizora
“ Unfortunately, you do not meet the major screening criteria for admission to your proposed major. However, because of your strong overall academic achievement, we would like to offer you admission into one of our non-screening majors.”
They’re saying I didn’t meet the criteria, but I had an advisor from UCSC check and they gave me the OK. Some of my courses for spring semester do not match what I put on the TAP (I planned to take physics and matlab, but I later decided not to because they weren’t required for the major and I didn’t want to stress myself out too much. Went with chemistry and calc II). Maybe that’s why?
@SomniRat that’s exactly why. I know it doesn’t say in the TAG contract but I had a friend who had a TAG for UCSC and he pestered our admissions counselor about this. She told us that if the classes listed are different from when you submitted your transcript of grades on TAP then it will be a reason for your TAG to be rejected
@SomniRat your situation seems very similar to another person on this forum. I think you’ll find the “TAG UCSC CS but not accepted!!” Thread.
I was reading the thread and I saw that there are no appeals. Though if you read through and see that your situation is different, you may still be eligible for regular admission. Though I’m not sure how it will work so I would check with an admissions officer about that.
@ziuls0 Hey! congrats on ur acceptance! I got a quick question. have you had all your required courses completed? were there any courses that were not offered at ur cc?
@hellknight Hey! congrats on ur acceptance! I got a quick question. have you had all your required courses completed? were there any courses that were not offered at ur cc?
@moyewell1 Thanks! I did complete all the required courses. Though I had to attend another cc for all Comp Science courses as my cc didn’t offer all of the required courses.
I also got the rejected from cog sci major but offering to change to non screening major email yesterday. Was pretty shocked but think I made a mistake thinking my AP score would count but needed a 4/5. The email said respond no later than April 9 to be considered so there’s definitely still readers reviewing applications
@hoshizora so I got an email from a UCSC advisor today. They said I was rejected because I didn’t take the correct programming course. I took Java and I had my own UCSC advisor tell me Java was acceptable and that I was all set for transfer. I think this is a ridiculous situation and yeah, I should’ve known Java wasn’t part of the major prep (I thought it was), but my advisor told me Java was perfectly fine. That’s the main reason why I’m upset about it. Just wanted to share an update.
@PhoenixWolf the courses I stated on the TAP that I’d take for spring didn’t match the courses I stated for the UC application (I changed my mind). A UCSC advisor told me the TAP shouldn’t affect the UC application. They also told me that I was rejected because I took the wrong programming course, however an advisor said my programming course (Java) was perfectly fine.
@SomniRat I’ve heard that if the courses on TAP doesn’t match your application your TAG can get rejected too… Idk why but UCSC seems extra strict with their TAG
I got scared and asked UCI (I have a TAG there) and asked them if I would be rejected if I changed it and try said not for UCI so I guess each school has their own policies
Does anyone know if all the acceptances of a specific major are released on one day? I haven’t heard anything back and I’m a non-tag comp sci major. I’m freaking out.
