i got into uci, but really want to transfer over to cal or ucla. and im hearing all of this negative feedback of how impossible it is to transfer from one uc to another. so are there any successful situations of how one transferred from one uc to another? and preferably from uci to ucla or cal?

Heres the deal, the master education plan says the UC’s need to take Community Collage transfers first . After they fill all those spots its very rare they will take a transfer from another UC . If you want to transfer go to a community college . The classes will be easier, thus giving you a better GPA( plus if a class is a nightmare for you, you have 8 weeks to drop it so it doesn’t destroy your gpa, the quarter system doesn’t allow this, 8 weeks in your about to take finals and accept the grade you get ). Assuming your a state resident the logical choice is to go to a community college and transfer .

The low 25th percentile transfer GPA is 3.62.

Trust me on this, if the transfer standard is already that high, do you rly want to be held to an even HIGHER standard then that . Plus you’ll graduate with way less debt . And anouther note on droping classes at community college, I saw UCLA bound students drop classes a week before finals since they were going to get a C instead of a A. This makes sense since you only lose like 108$ if you drop a class after the refund date , if you try the same thing at a 4 year school you’ll have to pay like a thousand dollars to do the same thing.

its not impossible i goto ucmerced right now and im about to transfer to ucla and i applied to transfer to la, sd, and irvine and i got into all 3
my major: history
overall gpa 3.55
my extracurricular stuff i put on my app was from high school
it depends on your major and personal statement
my major wasnt that impacted and my personal statement was pretty strong in my opinion too.

My friend was at UCSB, got a 3.76~, average ECs, and ****ty essays (he’s my friend but I must be honest) and he got into UCLA pretty easily.

it really depends on the major. i seriously never seen UC-UC transfer students for the impacted engineering majors, such as ME, EE, AE, etc.

anyone trying to go for business/econ at ucla or haas at cal? and which is more difficult to get into?

I got UCR to UCLA with a GPA of 3.7 and an anthropology major.

It just depends on what you do and how your drive is. I had a pretty good application.

If you REALLY wan’t to go to UCLA or Cal, then do like everyone else says and drop out of UCI. Go to a CCC. This is if you’ve already been to UCI…seen the school, hate it. If you just KNOW that you could never be happy here, then don’t come.

If you don’t mind being at UCI (seriously give it a chance…) for a bit and seeing what it’s like, then stay and try to attempt transfer. I’m in that position right now. It’s really stressful though, going into each quarter thinking about maintaining a high enough GPA for transfer. I don’t even know if I’m satisfying all of the prereqs…and i don’t know if I’ll actually WANT to leave UCI if it comes to that…I’m actually enjoying UCI and now I really don’t want to leave my friends. Regardless, if you want to even have the option of transfer, work hard early on. It’s a good motivator for doing good in school whether you end up transferring or not. One slip-up here can take chunks out of your GPA. Also, it’s probably true that it’s easier for some majors than others…like people here are saying.

Now to actually answer your question, I don’t think I’ve seen a single success story for Life Science majors from UCI-UCLA so far…or that many from UCI to UCLA in general on this board I mean. It’s probably a very good chance for less popular majors. Tough, but that’s life. I’m still not going to be discouraged. The worst thing that could happen is that you end up getting rejected, but you still end up with a decent UCI GPA :)

I got accepted into UCLA and UCSD from UCSB with a 3.33 for Math/Econ. However, I took about 20 units (quarter system) at a CC with a 4.0. I would not drop out of UCI and go to CC. Honestly, you might love UCI and want to stay. It is not impossible to transfer UC to UC. I know someone with a 3.2 art history major who is transferring to either UCLA or Cal next year.
