UC transfer for CA HS student

Hi

My S studied HS in CA and applied instate as freshmen, unfortunately could not get in to his desired Engg course in UC, hence had to opt for OOS reputed university, He has taken few courses in CA community college this year and is applying for UC transfer, would he be cosnidered in OOS category or instate for transfer?

If he takes at least 30 semester/45 quarter units at a CA CC and the CA CC is the last school in which he is enrolled, he would be considered a CCC transfer. If the majority of his units are from the OOS university, then he would be considered OOS.

I think the question you’re asking is whether he will be judged by OOS or CA resident criteria for transfer admission, not whether he qualifies as a community college transfer.

If that is your question then only UC can provide a definitive answer but it sure looks like he’s still a CA resident for admission purposes. Attending an OOS college does not cause him to lose his CA residency. You can read more about residency determination at Welcome | Understanding residency for purposes of UC tuition

Hi Mike, my question is two fold

  1. CA community college preferred admission - per @gumbymom answer looks like not unless your last school is CA CC

  2. Residential status for fee : Looks like it will be instate for college fee

I should have clarified that he would be evaluated as an OOS transfer applicant if the majority of transfer units are from the OOS school and he does not meet the CCC unit or last school attended transfer criteria but he would receive in-state tuition rates based on his residency.
