UCB - EECS and BA CS acceptance rates

Hi,
Since Berkeley does not guarantee looking at alternate major its so hard to make the choice. Does someone has the latest acceptance rate for Engg (BS) CS major vs BA CS major.

You may want to consider the major and general education requirements of each option.

Based on a recent post by Ms Sun the EECS admit rate was 7.6% (421 admits out of 5482 applicants) and CS was a 1.9% admit rate (213 admits out of 10,725 applicants).

Hmmm…that doesn’t make sense to me. COE admit rate across all majors in 2023 was only 7.1%. EECS is typically less than half the COE admit rate, so I would ballpark it around 4%.

From what I heard from S22, EECS is in the 3-4% range and CDSS was in the 2% range for Fall 2023, but the EECS applicant pool is likely more competitive given historical perceptions around pestige and relative admit rate differences.

Which year is she talking about here? On the Cal COE website they say the admit rate across ALL majors is 7.1%. There is no way her #s can be accurate.

The information listed was for the 2024 in-coming class.

I am pretty skeptical but she usually has good data. Will check in with S22 and his contacts and see if they can find the data from CalAnswers.

edit: Looks like she sourced them from a Cal email to counselors so this is likely accurate. Just surprised because this is a huge shift from the past and perhaps will take a couple of years with the new CDSS school until they stabilize.
