Hey, I am an incoming freshman at the University of Arizona. I’ll be doing a double major with Molecular and Cellular Biology and Computer Science. After college I plan on grad school, ideally the UCB/UCSF joint program (more info [Welcome to the Joint Medical Program | Joint Medical Program](http://jmp.berkeley.edu/)).

Anyway, based on some of the threads on here, good ECs for med school are usually leadership based roles while ECs for grad school are research and experience based. If I want to be the ideal candidate for this program (GPA, GREs, MCATs aside - lol I know they’re important), would I be better in focusing on research based, leadership based ECs, or both?

Realistically, this program is very selective, so in case I don’t get in I think it would be better just to focus on research because that’s more interesting to me and after college I would rather continue research at a grad school than to go to a med school. What are your thoughts?
