hi everyone.
i know ucd doesn’t have a journalism major, but i’m trying to figure out what schools would be good for me as an aspiring journalist. i’ve heard that the californian aggie isn’t a very highly-regarded student newspaper…is this true? also, are there any prestigious or at least good newspapers in sacramento that would be helpful to me if i could get an internship or job there during college?

thanks for any info. ^-^

UCD has a great English program and many of the classes offered in different majors will help you develop your writing skills. One of my friends works for the California Aggie and even though it may not be the most prestigious student newspaper, it is a widely-read publication on campus that has many opportunities for students as editors, writers, designers, etc. If you want to pursue a career in Journalism, I recommend exploring classes in the fields of Communication, English, Sociology, History, Poli Sci…the list goes on.

I’m not sure what the market is like for students wanting to write for Sacramento newspapers, but I know that the UC Sacramento Center has a great summer internship placement program for the Journalism field called Boot Camp. Here’s the link: [Journalism Program — University of California Center Sacramento](http://uccs.ucdavis.edu/journalism)

Hope it helps!

California Aggie is read everyday by the entire Davis community. Professors use the newspaper as examples of journalism in class…so I think it’s pretty acclaimed.
It is quite competitive to get a job at the newspaper.

Also, check out Sacramento Bee
