UCD Students May Sue College Over Sports Cuts

"Student athletes who were sidelined when four sports programs fell victim to budget cuts are raising allegations of financial mismanagement and threatening a lawsuit.

The UC Davis Office of the President says an independent investigation cleared administrators of any wrongdoing in the process that led to the end of men’s swimming and diving, wrestling, indoor track and field, and women’s rowing at the end of the last academic year. Many of the student athletes who filed a grievance against the school for the decision rejected the conclusions.

Zach Hansen, a former swimmer in the UC Davis program, said school leaders are out of touch and said the decision to cut the sports was made in secret, “violating many of our own procedures.”

‘They did it behind closed doors, and the people who were supposed to be involved were kept out,’ Hansen said…"

Good for them! I am happy to see the student-athletes sticking up for themselves and forcing the truth behind these decisions to come out.

Makes me think… cry-babies.

Sorry… the old “entitlement” argument gets old.

Man up!

Are you kidding me! These student-athletes signed contracts with the school, almost assuredly giving up scholarships and opportunities at other schools, only to have the rug pulled out from under them. This has absolutely nothing to do with entitlement!

from what i read, their scholarships were NOT cancelled. they were able to keep their scholarships, but the sport was cancelled. these were not revenue-generating sports, and this state and school system is in an economic crisis. nobody’s denying that this had to be disappointing to those athletes affected, but life goes on…

i can’t see this lawsuit–if filed-- going anywhere.

So that makes a lot of sense… Sue the school system which is out of money for the money they couldn’t have used to fund the sports they canceled.

They’re only making the situation worse. If they do win, they’re only taking away from their own education. The school will have to find something else to cut the budget of in addition to the money they were sued for.
