UCD vs. UCI: For a Career in Law

I know there’s numerous UCD versus UCI threads already… But I have one regarding future law students… UCD would probably have more internships right? But then UCI has “Criminology, Law and Society” as a major which would probably more geared for a career in law… And I probably would be more interested in that than Political Science (which is what I plan on majoring in if I go to Davis) So what is more important? The internship or the major?

Meh…either school will be fine. There are plenty of internships opportunities in OC/LA too, although nothing with the state capital obviously. Major in what you like the most and don’t even think about law for a few years. Enjoy college.

You don’t really need to major in anything specific to go to law school. Most people at UCI will major in either poli sci or criminology, but I know a lot of people who majored in English or philosophy and went to law school.

When you say “internships”, I don’t think Davis would necessarily have more, unless you were thinking about stuff with the state government. But if you wanted to get an internship at a law firm then you’re probably fine at either school. All of my friends who went to UCI that wanted to go to law school were fine, and they all got into great law schools. My three closest friends from UCI who went to law school went to Yale, Stanford, and UCLA. All three majored in poli sci.

I guess an obvious advantage that Davis would appear to have is that they have a law school and UCI doesn’t. But in actuality, I don’t think that would make a huge difference, since you wouldn’t be taking classes there anyway.

UCD has reputedly one of the largest internship programs with a reported 70% of students participating in interships with 6000 placements per year. It is the only UC with 5 professional schools ( med, law, business, educ, vet med). (thanks anothercollegemom for this information)
