i have a 3.09
go to bellarmine college prep in san jose
got 1800 on SAT
and am african american

you think i will get in?

No point in mentioning your ethnicity… it’s not taken into account in admissions decisions. Your GPA is really low and SAT is not very impressive either. Although it is possible to be admitted with these kinds of stats, I am going to say no.

It would really help if you had some incredible extracurriculars or extenuating circumstances…

bandislife…There is a preference for minorities, although it is illegal to have quotas. You just don’t hear anything “official” about it.

Your Sats are fine. Get high on your sat2’s. Raise your GPA this semester, try to get it up to a 3.2/3 (I hope your 3.09 is w/o the AP/honors bonus). Apply to a liberal arts major, and you should get in.

Hey, you go to Bell? I used to run in my track team there for 2 years. Im from notre dame.
Take community college classes over summer to raise your gpa and work on your sat scores. I got rejected with a 3.4 -ish UC gpa and 1750 -ish sat score.

There will always be that one kid who had a low gpa or low sat score who got in, do not rely on that. It will disappoint you like it disappointed me.

its definately gonna be a reach, but with GPA and SAT boost, its not impossible by any means. It got really competitive this year compared to past years, so i don’t know if it’s going to continue like this.

Although schools take diversity into consideration, it only really matters if being black has affected you in some way.

If you’re at Bellarmine Prep, it doesn’t sound like you’ve been disadvantaged in some way unless you are there on scholarship or your parents have struggled to make the payment. I might be overgeneralizing and making assumptions (so I apologize ahead of time), but when I was in public high school we were always jealous of the Bellarmine and other private school kids. Not to mention that your username on here gives me slight insight into your persona.

If you mention your ethnicity in your college essays, be honest about your experiences. Don’t say you were oppressed or experienced prejudice if you didn’t. If you have, don’t just blame everything on racism. You have to show how it has helped you and how you are overcoming it. And what you are doing to try to contribute to society so that this doesn’t happen to someone else.

I’m part black, so don’t think I’m jumping on your case or anything. I’m just saying, don’t abuse the fact that you are black. Let the people that have really struggled have a chance. If you have struggled, more power to you and good luck.

But other wise… your GPA is low for UCD. Especially for coming from Bellarmine. If you have more time before application, try to raise it. Your SAT is good. Just beware… if you’re applying to UCD as a freshman, the competition will be cut throat.

Just remember, anything is possible if you work hard for it. Don’t ever let someone else tell you what you can and can’t do for your future. And have faith in yourself.

getoffmydck: I got into Davis with a 2.99, 2090 SAT, 750 Math Level 2, and 690 Literature. But I also had debate on my application as an EC, where I had 15+ awards. Keep in mind that this year the admission rate was much lower than last year, and it will stay around 55% next year as well. Get really good SAT 2s, try retaking the SAT for a higher score, and start thinking about something you can talk about that will set you apart from other applicants.

I also would like to go for Davis or UCSD because both have good bio programs i hear.

Currently:

High School Junior
3.6 GPA Weighted

Did not take much honors classes in Sophmore year (only one) but got a decent 3.7 overall that year. Junior year im hoping for around the same or more. And as for senior year im taking 4 AP classes.

ACT i am going to retake but i recieved a 25 composite. SAT2’s i am taking in June.

Only extra curricular activities i have done are Key Club, Water polo and swimming.

i was told by a friend of mine i’d have a decent chance of getting into Davis, but i still have doubts.
