Unlike most children, I learned to read before I even knew what a television was. Instead of memorizing the names of the Power Puff girls in front of the TV, I spent my days buried in books at the library or exploring my mother’s rose garden. In other words I spent my childhood in a sheltered world of wonder, learning more and more each day. Seventeen years and thousands of pages later, not much has changed. My collection of books rises well over my head and my expeditions have surpassed the walls of the rose garden that was once the height of my exploration. The world around me has become a bit tougher while the lessons that I’ve learned along the way have become much more profound. My hunger for learning is one that will forever be unquenchable but one that will always be fed.
Socrates once said “True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing.” Growing up, I had always been taught that education is everything. However, I learn not only to become more educated, but also to become wiser. For being educated is to know the answers while being wise is to look everywhere for the questions. Once I stop asking questions, I stop learning.
Throughout my life I’ve found that learning goes far beyond the pages of any book. My pursuit of knowledge has seeped into every aspect of my life. From team sports to friendships, there is never a time humans cease to amaze me. Through these activities I have learned incredible lessons on compromise, honesty and the value of hard work. I’ve learned some of the most important lessons of all though, through working. Every week I work 6 hours hours of my time to SAP. For those who don’t know, SAP Company is a German multinational software corporation that makes enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. My job was to work with the IT department to fix and install different programs on people’s computers in SWS. Through this job I have created bonds with many different people from many different walks of life, teaching me how to fix computers, learn java, and to write code. I have learned more by spending an hour with these people than I ever have spending hours sitting in a classroom.
I am absolutely certain of two things in my life. The first thing is that nothing lasts forever and the second is that there is always room for improvement. With the help of UCF I believe that I could bring my education above and beyond. Either as a future filmmaker or lawyer, I feel that UCF will provide me with the tools that will enable me to become the best I can be. At the end of the day all I ever have is my mind so why not try and make it incredible.
You shouldn’t post the full text of your essay on college confidential or any other website. It is now available to pretty much anyone, and could easily be copied. It would also be fairly easy for a UCF admissions officer to find your essay online— at that point they might assume you plagiarized it
