There will probably be a lot of people that get deferred. I did the dissolve essay. I really liked mine. I felt like it meshed really well with my personality.

I doubt many people did the honesty prompt. You should stand out.

I did the “pose your own question” one.
is that bad??

Good luck to all :)

I did the ‘two kinds of people in the world’. =) Did anyone here choose ‘Find x’ ??

i did 2 kinds of people as well

I did “Find x” too. Since I’m planning on a physical science major, it seemed natural …

I also did the find x essay.

I gave the equation a+b=x, stated that x was a variable representing my future, that a was a variable representing my prior life experiences, and that b was a variable representing the experiences UChicago will provide me with.

Now that I think about it I am not sure if that was the right choice since life is clearly not that straight forward and it appears that UChicago favors “out of the box” thinking. However, the essay was well written and very personal.

@esthetique: Interviews are indeed part of the application. However, I was told by an admissions counselor that they can only enhance it. If you did not schedule an interview it in no way hurts you.

Was I the only one to do the dissolving option?..

No I did the dissolving option too. I’m so nervous. Any chance it will come out a tad earlier?

I mean it’s possible (Stanford did that, for instance this year for SCEA) but not sure about whether UChic would pull that kind of stunt…personally I want to get this over with and I’d be okay if the decision was released with very minimal notice (say, 2 hours to to get ready before sending the decision emails)

Am i the only one who did the pose a question prompt???

I did the “pose your own question” prompt! Hmmm, I wonder if that’s a bad thing. O_o

No, it’s a good thing I bet. I would have done that one, but I thought all the questions I wanted to answer might just end up sounding completely pretentious

I wrote the Find x also lol I think it shows nothing of me except ~creativity.
With a treasure map (on it there is a short poem like question) I am Jack sparrow, fighting monsters and other boats and fly on a boat. X is u chicago…

I did the pose your own question prompt and had quite a bit of fun with it. I worry it may have been angsty, however, or just not nearly as good as it could have been. If I get deferred I will probably rewrite it to be find x, as I have some interest in a certain answer to that prompt.

I was considering doing two types of people in the world, as well, but I won’t. I was going to compare books to birds, but I don’t think that makes sense.

I will most certainly be rejected, though. The kids at my school are powerhouses, and the number of them applying has doubled over the past couple years. What’s awkward is that I’m babysitting for my UChicago-grad neighbors this Friday, and they said, to my horror, they would throw a party for me if I got in. Oh boy.

My interview for Uchic was really laid back. The guy was super nice and we talked a bit about art/economics and the middle east, and I got to talk about some of my views about education and my classes from last year. To my surprise, when I mentioned a topic in a class he’d ask me my specific opinions about things, which took me off guard at first and I wish I’d responded more adeptly or reflected a bit more before speaking. But overall I got to talk about most of the things I really cared about, although perhaps it was rambly and off-topic. One thing that was awkward was that some of the majors I selected when I signed up for the interview were different from what I thought they were, I had no idea. Whoopsie?

I did “honesty is the best policy”. It probably doesn’t show too much creativity, but I think I showed I have critical thinking skills necessary for UChicago. I hope. :)

Is it a negative indication if they did not ask for an interview?
Oh well. It’s a bit late for that now. Tick, tock, tick, tock.

Interviews are not going to hurt you. Not having one… same

i did the two kinds of people one…and took a risk. mmm hope it pays off.
