UChicago 2028 RD Waitlist

My son was waitlisted at Chicago and accepted his spot. Did not do LOCI as of yet but likely will submit one tomorrow. He since got in to Penn and Stanford, but will see if Chicago will admit him with some serious money. If not, then he’s off to Stanford.

Guess they’ll start pulling off the waitlist on April 10th, which is 5 days later than last year (which RD release date was), and is also a Wednesday as last year’s April 5th.

Has anyone heard back yet?

I haven’t heard anything yet

I have some insider info.
Apparently more students are accepting admission to UChicago for 2028 than they expected at this point so they most likely will NOT be making calls to ppl on the waitlist until mid-May - if at all. Unfortunately.
I think my son is moving on mentally and getting excited about his next choices/acceptances (Lehigh or Wake Forest). Still will stay on the waitlist JUST IN CASE.

I understand. Typically, I presumed it might be linked to the recent issues FAFSA has been facing, causing uncertainty among many students about their commitment until they receive their financial aid offers. Have all the openings for the Class of 2028 been filled?

May I ask what’s your source of info? Is this speculation or comment from an AO? Thx

I don’t want to say who it was because I don’t want them to get in trouble for anything if they weren’t supposed to share it. But it was someone in a faculty-ish position who deals with admissions for certain recruiting.

I don’t know if c/o 2028 is filled yet. I don’t think they will know until after May 1st. I just know that our contact said waitlisted students probably won’t be getting contacted until May.

I understand. That’s helpful & thank you for sharing that. Gonna stop closely checking on this matter until May.

Would it be fine to send a follow up LOCI late April and update them on new accomplishments?

Our campus tour guide said one friend who got in off the waitlist sent more than one update, including one that she was selected graduation speaker. Another got off WL without sending anything.

Any word yet?

nope

Didn’t they accept less students than usual though? So even if all students were to accept, wouldn’t they still have room for waitlisted students or are they just going to have less students the next school year?

They accept way more than will fill the class because they know not all accepted students will matriculate. So even if they accepted less this year- a higher percentage of those are accepting their spots.

Will all students receive a message stating their final decision? Or do they only contact students who are offered acceptance?

Just saw someone post on reddit saying they know a friend who got taken off the waitlist last Friday after the AO scheduled a call with them.

Quick question, if I can’t get off the waitlist this year, would I have a higher chance of being accepted as a transfer in the next academic year?
