Hi guys, I’m waiting for my early decision just like i’m sure all of you are so I was wondering if you guys could chance me? I’m not as impressive of a student as most UChicago applicants but it’s my dream school so I’d like to know if you guys think I have a shot at getting in…
Here are some of my stats:
GPA - 3.82 weighted
ACT - 31 Composite (35 English, 34 Reading, 30 Math, 25 Science)
SAT - N/A
SAT Subject Tests - 690 Literature
Honors - IB Diploma Candidate, Honor Role (10,11,12)
Course Load - IB Global Politics, IB English, IB Spanish (Spanish 5), IB Math (Calculus), IB Biology, IB World Religions
Extra Curriculars - Mu Alpha Theta (11,12)(President), National Honor Society (12), Peer Tutoring (10,11,12)(President), JSA (12), Mathletes (11)(President), JV Softball (9,11), Varsity Cheerleading (9), JV Cheerleading (11), and I worked at a frozen yogurt shop for all of high school
From the Ivy and Duke results it looks like the applicant pool shrunk at a lot of places because of demographic changes in the US and a dip in international apps. I wonder what that means for Chicago
UPenn also saw a drop in ED applications this year. I wonder if the pool of applicants is less or applicants are shifting to different schools (like test optional schools)?
My guess is having a Red X next to the FAFSA is not a very good sign. Means they have not even accessed the government’s website to download it. Ouch … it was a big reach anyway for me.
My son is applying economics in UChicago. Wish everyone good luck!
In 1987, I applied college in China. I failed at the first year. I had to take one whole year to study. I was one point short to get admit to my dream school on the 2nd year. After two year study in China, I transferred to ECE in UIUC to finish my bachelor degree. That was good experience for me to adjust my life goals. Life is so long, don’t let college define you!
@JingoLu That is an inspiring story. Thanks for sharing.
A word of caution: if that is your real name on your acronym, I suggest you delete your account now and create a new one. You only have 2 replies so far and so you are new to CC. Deleting your account won’t cost you much in terms of missing communication. . However, it is not a good idea to show your real name in public forum like CC. Make a new account and use acronym that is not traceable back to you.
Decisions are out soon! I heard through the grapevine that EA applicants are accepted at a way lower rate than ED applicants in hopes that the deferred EA applicants will go to ED II for UChicago!!
It may depend on the Ivy. The number of ED applicants is certainly way up at Cornell and Brown, have not followed the others. What seems to have changed is the proportion of the slots filled through ED. It is now up to 50% at Cornell: a huge increase from the last year. So the number of applicants is up, the number of admission is up even more (percent-wise). This translates into higher acceptance numbers, but should still drain applicants away from UChicago ED1.
In prior years it has been possible to switch to ED2 instead of going to regular pool if deferred. If that option is extended this year, you will probably learn about it at the time that decisions come out.
@AnxiousDad2024 UChicago saw 15k early apps last year, a decent number of which were likely ED1. And then there is ED2 . . .it’s no surprise that Cornell and Brown are accepting large numbers of the class as ED now; UChicago anticipated this trend three years ago when it introduced ED for the first time and started admitting over 50% of the class that way.
