UChicago EA Applicants 2018

So type up a thoughtful response to the optional question and send it in like that? I might do it. But I don’t want it to seem like I’m trying to bend the rules to fit me. Like, you should look at my response to this question NOW, even though I didn’t have it in two months ago like everybody else, and realize how great I am.

I just requested an alumni interview. The button wasn’t there for me before and all the sudden it just appeared. That was allowed, right?

@brm i would think it’s allowed. they ask for no new essays, but idk since you’re not rewriting an old essay

@ironchariot Where did they say that? I feel like there are instructions somewhere that I can’t find.

i believe on the admissions blog

So I’m reading this Q&A with the english staff on the Uchic website, and when asked about the most interesting fact he’s come across in his recent research, one professor said: the living today outnumber all the people who have ever died. And I was like, that’s so cool!

But it turns out he’s wrong, that’s like a popular myth. The living today make up an estimated 6% of all humans to ever have lived on earth, which is still huge. What this means is 1) for every person alive today, there are fifteen dead people, and 2) even Uchicago professors are human and make mistakes. (Or I might be wrong. But I checked my sources!)

Both facts are blowing my mind.

@ironchariot thanks! I’ll look again. I wish this stuff wasn’t all online I’m so bad with computers, things hide from me and I can never find them.

I think as long as you upload something that isn’t repetitive, and isn’t for the sake of “interest” you should be fine.

I don’t know, I feel like if they wanted more from the deferred applicants they’d have asked…

I really wish we could find out why they deferred us so we’d know what to improve…I mean it’d be painful, but I feel like a lot of our options are shots in the dark right now. Trying to think like a Chicago adcom, I feel like they’d say something along the lines of only send in new information if you feel like there’s an important side of your personality they can’t already see from the rest of your app. I’ve been reading through the old threads and I haven’t found much of a pattern in what the accepted deferrees did, so I think that sending in more stuff isn’t important in all cases. Whether it’s helpful at all seems to depend on some factor only the admissions officers are spotting. So vague. Chicago, why must you play so hard to get?

[Rent (2005) OST Take Me or Leave Me - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

so true

YES. So perfect. If gimmicks actually worked, I’d dress up as the Chicago pheonix and tape myself singing this song for my adcom. Let no embarrassment or shame bar me from Chicago!

lol nerve, i’d come with you, we could do it as a duet! except i can’t sing

Heheh me either. It’s ok, squawking singing will just make it sound more authentically pheonix-ey :p

i’m laughing so hard at that mental image  d’you think maybe we could fake light ourselves on fire as well? just like the hunger games

I think we have to! “And now announcing, the tributes from district 14, the musical parodies district, in an impressive display of sheer desperation!” Actually the whole application process is scarily like the hunger games

very much like the hunger games, and lol the musical parody district

Ill most likely send an email this month. I requested an interview but was not contacted; did anyone have the same problem? If so, where should I go from now?

My main reason for wanting to get into UChicago, besides academics, is because of the “uniqueness” established within the student body and faculty. It seems to me that the people there are peculiar in an intellectual way yet socially normal. It seems like the type of place where being a cool nerd is possible. Definitely my number one pick.

I was deferred with a 28 ACT and 3.7 GPA (very lucky), and my essays, imo, were very different and told an amazing story. I received all As in 4 AP classes + a dual enrollment class (total of 5 classes) and scored a 770 on my math 2. Hopefully that’s enough to get in RD. Once again, good luck to all the nice, vibrant people on this thread. I’ve been following it, didn’t post much, and I must say its much better than any other.

Options still available: UMich (accepted), Johns Hopkins, Northwestern (probably rejected), and USC.

1 choice is UChicago!

P.s. Any general tips on how to get ahead in college? My question was intentionally vague, btw.

If only there was a redo high school button… Ik my mistakes lol

i feel like we have to keep this thread going.
