UChicago EA Applicants 2018

Hello,
I was accepted EA, and I was hoping those who also got accepted could comment on the amount of financial aid they received. Was it more or less compared to other comparable universities? Also, does anyone know how difficult it is to receive the Odyssey Scholarship? Thank you.

Agreed @ironchariot! Are you getting your counselor to kind of champion you to the admissions office? I tried to hint at mine but she either didn’t get it or doesn’t want to. I hope that isn’t a problem…Anyway, I feel like we should try to keep this thread light. Anyone listened to any good music lately? I just discovered London Grammar and I’m loving it

a@nerve i go back to school wednesday and i’m gonna talk to her and see if there’s anything she could do. as for music, i’ve been listening to a lot of irish folk lately, don’t ask why lol. i like The High Kings and Loreena McKennitt

The Odyssey thing isn’t something you apply for, and it’s not based on anything except financial aid and acceptance to UChicago. Look at the website. If your family income is <$75,000 it’s totally free! If it’s <$90,000 you have half your loans eliminated or something. My family falls into the latter category, so I got a nice finaid deal.

Did EA admits already get notified if they got merit aid? Or does that come with the official package?

Good luck! I hope she can help  Oooh, Irish folk actually sounds really cool, I’ll have to have a listen now! The closest I’ve come is Flogging Molly, which isn’t exactly Irish folk–more like angry Irishmen growling over fiddles. I like it though

i like the bit of flogging molly that i’ve heard, can’t stand the pogues though.

I just stumbled back upon this thread after abandoning it a couple of weeks ago and I actually felt joy that people are still using it haha  How were everyone’s holidays?

@ita my break was pretty good, you?

Holden Caulfield said in ‘Catcher in the Rye’; “What really knocks me out is a book that, when you’re all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.” What really knocks ME out is a great University that, when you’re all done looking it up and combing through its brochure, you wish you were a student there and you could call up the admissions office and ask them to take you in, and they say YES.
Haha, lame I know. But yay us!

^YES. I loooove Catcher in the Rye.

So what have you all been up to? I’ve been obsessively following the latest series of Sherlock to distract myself from admissions.

Interview today. Hopefully it has a great mark on my application.

^ @headed2great you should probably go on an RD thread, if there is one

Blech did anyone else get what seemed like a form letter back in response to the letter of continued interest? I’m REALLY hoping that’s standard procedure for everybody…

How much does the interview matter? Also, Im planning on sending an email showing interest tomorrow; is it too late?

Not too late  The interview is basically the least important part of the app, so don’t stress it. It’s not going to change a decision on its own, it’s more of a tipping factor (from the sense I’ve gotten from compulsive college-book reading)

Thanks, I guess it is just a way to see the human side of an applicant rather than the common app side. I was deferred so I think this interview will help me (at least a little).

Fellow deferree high five! I definitely think it’s a good idea to do the interview (I wish I could do another, since I did mine pre-deferral). I definitely wasn’t trying to bash on the interview, I hope that’s not how it came out! I just meant it’s not going to kill your application if you don’t end up in some three hour metaphysical discussion with your interviewer :)

Nerve I’m so sorry I couldn’t look at yours in time I had computer trouble and using iPod to type this now

No worries! I cut a couple run-on sentences out (it definitely was ridiculously wordy) and I’m just glad to have it sent instead of sitting around for me to obsess over it. I can still look at yours if you want :)

Soon as my computer stops spazzing I’ll send it
