eeeeeeeeeep just submitted my app. probably won’t get in, but hey why not try

@enoughnerve what was the response to your letter like? care to compare? you sent it to your regional counselor, right? not the main admissions office?

I mean, it was a very nice letter, the phrasing of it just seemed like a form letter. Yep, regional counselor:

"Thank you for your email and for your continued interest in the University of Chicago. We know that being deferred can be disappointing, but we appreciate your maturity and look forward to considering you again in regular decision.

Thank you for sending us a thoughtful note on why UChicago remains your top choice for college. I will be sure to add it to your file and will consider it when we review your file in regular decision.

I hope that helps!

All the best,
Andrea"

“Thank you for your message. I hope you had a lovely New Year’s Eve. Your passion for UChicago is clear, and I will be sure to add this to your file. It will be considered under the regular decision pool.”
That’s what mine said. They both seem to be form letters, but then again, I’m sure they don’t have time to write separate ones for all of us.

Weird…I wonder if they write multiple form letters to keep us from thinking their form letters? lol. Yours does sound very enthusiastic though! I’m sure that’s a good thing

Hahaha it sounds more or less the same as yours. It must be a form letter! And well, I love clinging on to the hope that its positive :D.

Good gawd I can’t believe I said “their” instead of “they’re.” The college process is eating what’s left of my brains. It definitely seems positive to me!
Hmmm, do you think sending an activities update the same week as my letter of continued interest would be obnoxious? On the one hand, I want them to have it as soon as possible, on the other I’m terrified of being that one annoying, needy applicant :p

Any URM’s? I’m african american applying for RD

What did you all write in the subject line for your letters?

@enough, I don’t think it’ll seem obnoxious at all! I’m sure that they understand the anxiety behind college apps, and will guess that you just want to complete all of your work. Definitely send it in as soon as possible.
@seaswallowed I couldn’t think of what to write so I just put in my applicant ID. Hope that helps! Although now that I think of it, you could just write ‘letter of continued interest’ or something.
Also, do you guys think its bad that I haven’t done anything new since I applied? It’s just that in my school, from october onwards the senior class is treated like we’ve already graduated, and we can’t participate in any extracurriculars or anything. We just have to study for our finals. I hope that doesn’t spoil my chances :/

Thanks! I wish I could say it helped. Unfortunately, my email decided to send when I was halfway through writing it and I don’t know why. My mail server just spazzed out, and when I refreshed the page I found that the email had been sent. So I sent a follow-up email (completed, this time), and the subject line was an apology for the previous email. I’m so incredibly frustrated right now. I hope they don’t hold that premature email against me too much.

@seaswallowed hahaha I’m sure they won’t. At least I hope they don’t hold such stuff against us because I just realized that I sent an email to an admissions officer saying ‘thank for your help’. Do you think I should send a follow up email for that, or will they understand that it was just a typo?
God, I feel like killing myself right now.

hahaahhahah. It’s okay, they’ll understand. You will risk coming off as a pedant if you email a correction. I have yet to finish writing my interest letter.

@international lol, thanks! I guess I won’t send another then
But you should send in your letter before the end of this month, I think. Good luck!

Yeah, they’ll definitely understand a typo. They’re human, too. @international I’m glad to hear I’m not the last to send my letter haha. Though I think they just want one by the 31st, so it doesn’t really matter.

I need advice.

I was deferred EA and am still going for RD. I got a B in AP Calc (which is unrelated to my intended major of Poly Sci), so my class rank dropped from 5 to 7. Do you think this is going to completely screw me over for both this and all other schools I apply to?

@debater1996

I was accepted EA, but I’m sort of in the same boat as you for all the other schools i’m applying to regular. According to my school’s counselor, colleges understand that senior year is tough and grades may slip a little. As long as you maintain grades that don’t fall considerably it won’t be a negative factor against you. However, for those who really improved their grades, it can be a real positive.

Okay, I do hope so.

My cumulative GPA actually did rise, but my class is really competitive, so my ranking fell. Hopefully they show mercy!

was deferred EA. requested an interview. still no response from u of c. how long to get an interview once you have submitted a request? does everyone get an interview or only ones that u of c is still considering?

Anyone with the statistics for UChicago Class of 2018 EA? Goodluck to all who were deferred like me. l believe we will be classmates.
