UChicago EA Applicants 2018

AfricanKid:

Did you see the thread titled “Class 2018 EA applicant pool was very strong”?’’

There is some interesting new information there. Maybe not everything you are looking for, but some things.

@kaukauna, l saw the thread. It’s very insightful.

hey guys, i have a question for any of you who sent updates: did your counselor ever respond? mine hasn’t to either of mine, and I know Grace said they’re busy and not to worry, but it seems like everyone got some sort of response, and i’d feel horrible if my updates never got through and it cost an acceptance. this is more of a rant than anything, sorry.

Yes, ironchariot, my counselor did respond. If you’re THAT worried, just email your counselor asking a question and add a “PS” at the bottom asking if he/she saw your previous message. #crafty #lol

I scarcely think a letter is going to affect your decision, though, you know, given how competitive U of C is.

Heyy fellow deferrees (is that a word, again?) How’s senior year going?
Let’s start talking again. I miss you guys.
And also, I believe that last year, decisions were out on the 15th of March. That is SO close. I’m starting to get terrified again, although I HAVE managed to control my obsessive compulsion to go to UChicago next year and managed to fall in love with a few other schools. Still, this thread was always a comfort.
"Let knowledge grow from more to more, and so be human life enriched’.

i miss you guys too. senior year is exhausting, but going good. i’m still in love with uchicago, although i recognize my other great options.

Hey there fellow deferrees! (we’re making it a word). I hope they get the decisions out on the 15th. I know they left the common app open later this year, but hopefully the drop in apps will balance it out time-wise. As much time as I put into getting psyched over other schools, nothing’s quite as exciting as the idea of an acceptance to UChicago come March. I kind of just want to know at this point though, the waiting is crazy-making.

I just sent my email to my admissions counselor today, stating that I still fully intend to go to U Chicago if I am accepted.

Tomorrow will be two months since the EA decision day, so I know this is a bit late. I’ve struggled in those two months over whether I still want to got to a school that deferred me (which I considered to be a slight at the time), and I finally decided that yes, I do. That’s what I explained in my email, how torn I was over the decision, but how I ultimately decided that I still want to go there. Here’s hoping we all get in.

On another note, it is nice to see that this thread is still alive. I remember checking this so often in the build up to decisions being released, and I’m glad that none of us have given up hope.

@debater agreed! btw, i think we have the same counselor. do you mind letting me know if she responds?

@ironchariot

We must have a different counselor. He hasn’t responded yet.

oh, could’ve sworn we had the same one. oh well :)

“Thank you for applying to UChicago. Processing of application materials is now complete. We will notify you via email in mid-March when decisions are available.”
Is that killing anybody else?
Also, anyone here up for sharing favorite books/poems/movies/music, etc?
I’ll start: Though I can’t really pick, right now my favorite book is Istanbul by Orhan Pamuk, and my favorite poem is ‘Having a Coke with you’ by Frank O’ Hara. I’m not really a movies person- so none of those. Music- I love ‘Your Ex Lover is Dead’ by the Stars, otherwise I generally like old school (The Beatles) or Philip Phillips or Coldplay.

Yep, it’s killing me too. lol. I’m so glad that February has only 28 days. lol.

@crazychic
books-catcher in the rye, 1984, poisonwood bible
movies-none of those, except maybe finding nemo
music-anything classic rock

@international agreed

@ironchariot

I know it was determined that we have different admission counselors, but mine did end up responding to my email stating that U Chicago is still my first choice.

@debater mine responded yesterday to an update i sent a month ago, never to my letter although i trust she got it, seeing as i’m still bothering to send updates means i haven’t given up

For those whose admissions counselor did respond to their letter of continued intent, what did they say? I’m trying to determine whether or not I got the standard response.

Hi! Will the IME Program at UChicago be ABET accredited?

^^ sorry wrong thread!

@Debater1996 My counselor just said something along the lines of “Great! Thanks for updating me. I know getting deferred is disappointing, but I’m glad you’re still determined blah blah” It seemed informal and personal. SHe got back to me within a day or two.
