@imkanaan, financial aid packages are released to students electronically through their UChicago Account. A follow-up paper mailing containing the same information as the online account is also sent.

I am asking this question on behalf of a good friend of mine. She, like me (hence my name) would like to major on molecular biology and as been granted admission into UChicago. She was wondering however, whether one D in a class like APUSH in second semester (which she is taking due to school graduation requirements and inflexible class scheduling), but solid grades in everything else would have her admission automatically revoked.

Hi @DNApolymerase, this is something we will have to discuss with your friend and will be decided on a case by case basis. We hope to see no failing grades on a student’s transcript after they have been admitted, but understand that circumstances may arise and will work with her to understand the situation before making any judgment here.

For the Letter of Recs for the application process, does UChicago require the teacher be from a certain grade or can the teacher have been had at any point in highschool? Some universities require that the teachers who write them must’ve been had in 11th grade while other places dont.

Hi Grace. I’m an admitted student doing IB. I want to know under what conditions will UChicago consider rescinding the offer of admission? Thanks a lot!

@BillyGoToYale, although we hope to see that students continue to perform as well academically and socially after admission as before, we reserve rescinding offers of admission for very serious circumstances, such as academic dishonesty, very poor grades (Ds and Fs, etc), criminal charges, etc.

when you guys sent your email to the regional officer did you get a reply? if so was the reply from the regional officer or someone else at chicago and what did it say?

Hi Grace, Could you provide some insight to merit awards? When will the last of the merit awards be made? Will they mostly go to students who have not yet made their decision? And can you provide some information on what type of stats/qualities might make it more or less likely to get an award at this stage? Thank you.

@njoi123, we try to provide a personal reply to all students who email us, but are sometimes not able to. Depending on the email address you sent your note to, you may have heard back from either your regional counselor or, if emailing the collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu account, the officer on duty for that day. We do make note of all of the emails we receive and forward them to regional officers for review.

@UCTransfer1 we will likely release transfer decisions sometime in the first full week of May.

@momwquestions we continue to award merit scholarships through April; we have a faculty and staff panel that awards merit scholarships and they do not have any defined metrics for awarding aid-- they simply look at the strength of the students’ overall application. Our merit scholarships do not have any requirements for SAT, GPA, etc.

I have two questions. Firstly, does being a recruited athlete provide any kind of leverage in the admissions process? Will a prospective student-athlete be given preference in admissions? Also is legacy at all considered in the admissions process?

Thanks for your time, I really love your school and hope I can attend in around two years :)

Hi, Grace, my class of 2015 daughter is becoming more and more interested in UChicago and might apply EA. It’s not clear if we can squeeze in a visit before the EA deadline (on the east coast in boarding school). On the website it says that alumni interviews can be scheduled beginning 1/17/15–does that mean than she would be unable to interview with an alum before applying EA? Thanks!

Thank you for your support, @UChicago - Grace!

U of C future student here with one questions: are final grades compared to the mid-term grades? This semester, I am not doing so well in 1 of my classes. I had an A in an AP History class the first nine-weeks and a pretty low C (72) average overall… for the year. The other grades are high Bs and As in other APs for the year. Would this be a “very poor grade” that would be a cause of rescinding my admission, especially if they compare the mid-term grade to the final grade?

I am very worried about this. I realize that I should not have let this one class slip, but it did, and now I am trying to learn from this experience. I do have an option of re-taking a regular history class over the summer…if this would help at all.

Hi Grace, I’ve heard that uchicago disregards the writing score of the SAT. Is this true? I am a bit worried because my SAT score depends quite heavily on my writing score, and critical reading is my weakest section.
